COACHING SEARCH: Campbell up, Fleck down

Fritz is out of the running then?

Campbell would make sense from a religious point of view. I believe he got into a bit of trouble at Toledo for talking religion too much with his players or something? Not saying he wouldn't be a good choice because I think he could be really good, I'm just saying he definitely fits the JP mold, that's for sure.

Who the hell cares what religion someone is for head coach? If religion comes into play at all Pollard should be fired for that. We're hiring a football coach, not the leader of the local FCA.

Fleck is kind of a weirdo personality wise, may not be what JP is looking for.

Have you ever talked with Pollard? He is about as socially awkward as a World of Warcraft player. I don't think weirdness would turn him off of a candidate.

It's disappointing that a small contingent of donors who have never met a person or interviewed them whether it be Thompson, Fleck, Stitt, whoever are able to have such significant input on the single most important hire of an athletic department.

Being reported that Justin Fuente has accepted the Virginia Tech job and will retain Bud Foster as his DC. Foster was considered a potential head coaching candidate this year.

The highest reward part is that he's by far the best recruiter of the bunch, and has a history of stealing recruits from B10 teams at Western freaking Michigan, which is what we would need.

And how many boosters have actually met the guy?

That is a really good question. And where do our boosters get the info from? If they haven't met, why don't they meet? Everyone has had at least one experience of judging the book by its cover.
Plus are we sure the "info" is legit that we are sure it's not some way to keep him from going to us and hired by someone else more easily?

Are you 11 years old?

They give the money because they love ISU and want the influence. Without them, you don't have any improvements for the Bergstrom or the Jack, and you don't even have the option to replace Rhoads in the first place with his buyout.

Plus right now before any interviews, is the stock that CW is reporting just "chances to get interviewed" stock? Or are both Campbell and Fleck guaranteed to get interviews? Because if they both get interviews, none of this really matters much.

Was just listening to JP talk at Prohm's introductory press conference. Things he says mattered in the search are

proven winner, demeanor, family man and faith.

That should give us some idea about which coaches will not make the cut.

To answer your question, NO.

And "donations" don't typically come with power except in college athletics. That would topically be known as a membership.

COuld Barbers be one of the surprise candidates? Not on the top of my list, but he would be a good hire. Won at Eastern Illinois and Bowling Green (Improved both years). Also, spent time with Briles at Baylor.

I think that's what the poster was getting at though. Not that they had an issue with the coach's religion, but that Pollard loves to hire bible beaters. To the extent that he clearly has that as part of his evaluation of prospective coaches.

Call it whatever you want. But ISU isn't any different than anyplace else in this regard, and there are lots of places that are a helluva lot worse.

Why not Rod Carey? Isn't he 6-0 against Campbell and Fleck combined?

So you're saying Chizik was a failure because he was a Christian - get a grip. Chizik was a failure because he was a poor football coach - which became evident when Malzahn quit being his OC to become a head coach and he sunk that program.

I couldn't care less whether our next coach is a born-again Christian or a Pastafarian - just win.

I don't give crap about his religion. It shouldn't be pushed on others....I don't care what that is. Chizik pushed his religion on others and that was obvious when they hired a chaplain!

And campbells offensive philosophy is just like chiziks.

Chizik 2.0.

I am pretty sure the purpose of the chaplain was to be a bagman.
