Ames Tribune link: College: ISU football, men

Ames Tribune said:
The named coaches “are acknowledging personal acknowledgement in their respective findings and are at risk for a show-case penalty,” according to the report.
...
The report states that these infractions are considered a major NCAA violation. ISU is asking that “some individuals will be taking the position that some findings standing alone should be found to be secondary violations.”

This line makes the infractions sound like a big deal. Is that actually the case, or is this just scary language for something rather minor in the larger perspective?

If these happened during McDermott for the basketball team it felt Iowa State was already on probation and ineligible for post season!!

Anyone else worried we will get the hammer? I'm guessing scholarships may be impacted. Maybe it's just a scare tactic though? It's not like we killed or molested anyone...

With the bad luck we've had this year, and the fact that we're not necessarily a big boy, I have to admit I'm a little worried the NCAA tries to set an example. But it seems like we've seen way worse things than this happen across the NCAA for less consequences.

The pessimist in me is worried, but the realist in me says it can't be that bad.

Baylor made almost 500 illegal calls and got almost nothing. I think the penelty will be minor.

Auburn got away with paying cam Newton six figures and we will get the hammer for self-reporting a few impermissible calls that most schools probably do anyways and don't report to the NCAA. Life as a Cyclone fan.

Baylor had way more calls that we did so I don't think it could be worse, although we're Iowa State you know the school where sometimes it's a charge and sometimes it's not, sometimes the other team wins on a bank 3 point shot or just a 3 point shot at the buzzer, you know our team..........

Its a joke that these are considered 'major' violations. Not logging a call that went to voicemail\wasnt answered at all?

Of course, the NCAA being the joke that it is will probably drop the hammer on us while letting programs like Miami, UNC, and Auburn off the hook.

"The investigation started in the spring of 2011 when Iowa State men’s basketball coach Fred Hoiberg discovered that student men’s basketball coach Keith Moore had improperly contacted prospective recruits."

Damn tattle-tail Fred getting our *** in hot water!

that's weird, i can't find keith moore in the state salary database from 2006-2011? shouldn't he be in there is he was an ISU employee?
