Coaches getting Technicals

Sampson had a right to be upset for that missed call, in my opinion. He still shouldn't have gone out onto the court like he did, obviously.

I do think the crack down on coaches leaving the box is very much needed. Bruce Webber might have led the conference in technical fouls if he was still at K-State. Drew and Dixon are almost as bad.

I think Sampson's eruption was somewhat calculated. They were up 20 on the worst team in the league and it was his opportunity to make a point about the state of officiating without explicitly talking about it in the post game. I didn't have a problem with it through that lens.

But while the ball is in play the coaches NEED to remain fully off the court. I'm happy this is finally being taken seriously by the officials.

Saw this on another forum. The BIG 12 sent out a memo to crack down on bench decorum. The **** that Scott Drew does where he's yelling behind players or running along side them coming down the court is an instant T now, no warnings.

On item #4, could our bench be penalized for "the players gesturing" when they do the T-O action upon an opponent turnover? As it reads, it seems like they could

Based on our recent games I fully expect Dixon to get popped Saturday for coming out onto the court. I can only imagine how excited Doug Sirmons got reading that memo. Dude loves dropping techs
Very likely, he is shoe in for the Weber Award for On Court Presence this year.

this almost smacks of retaliation, since grades will be forthcoming.

I haven't seen any activity that would make me think that coaches are acting out any more than they have in the past (from what I've seen, it's probably less). I think they're just taking a stand on certain rules that they used to let slide (coaches getting on the floor being one of the rules that needed to be enforced).

Huh? Isn't it obvious what stimulated this emphasis of the coaches box rule?

P.S. Not sure if this photo is from in the game or in the handshake line, but it illustrates the point.

This hit me last night after Terry got teed up. That was 4 straight games where the opposing bench drew at least one technical. Kelvin Sampson got ejected last night (while having a 20 point lead). Here's a link: https://nypost.com/2024/02/07/sports/houstons-kelvin-sampson-storms-court-screams-in-referees-faces/

What is going on?? While not perfect I think Big XII officials are better than most leagues. Are coaches under more pressure? I'm guessing boosters that pay NIL money are more vocal than they used to be. I'd be curious at to anyone else's opinion.
Well, 3 of the 4 (Drew withstanding) have complete psychopaths as head coaches, so...

It's good to crack down on coaches staying off the court and staying within their area. But it does need to be called consistently if they're going to call it, which should improve as we move forward.

My biggest takeaway from the posted article is that the Big 12 was the last major conference to be grading officials. That seems pretty incredible, considering all the issues that teams around the league have had with officiating over the years.

We should coach our players to run into coaches that are on the floor. Automatic T on the bench.
I have been begging for an ISU player to “Jason Kidd” one of these guys (Bruce Weber, in particular) for YEARS. I get the instinct to hesitate/avoid an obstacle, but I bet it would only take getting trucked once (plus the T, to add insult to injury) to change the behavior.

Its just human nature for the refs, they will allow a coach to be out the box if he is coaching his players, the ones they go after and get T up is the coach that is repeatedly out of the box after being warned still complaining about the officials.
Terry was a perfect example last night; the ref made a call and Terry went after him and the ref told him to just stop. The next time Terry started to complain the ref T him up. He had been warned and got what was deserved.

TJ does a great job of this, his demeanor on the sideline is more talking to the refs not screaming at them like Mad Fran does, therefore he gets few technicals an gets away with more. Self is another example, he may get angry show his displeasure but knows when to stop, unless he is trying to get a T to fire up his team.
