Coach Prohm Gets Extension

From Coach Prohm himself on the extension of contract:
“I couldn’t be more grateful and appreciative for the chance to be the head men’s basketball coach at Iowa State,” Prohm said in a release. “The support of the school administration has been great and what more can be said about the fan base. Whether we’re playing in Hilton Coliseum, Maui, Kansas City or Tulsa, you can count on amazing support. I have one of the elite college jobs in the nation. My family has really settled in Ames, and we want to be here a long time.”

I'm good with all this...especially the last part! As long as he's consistent in what he's been doing, this could be a great relationship.

Lighten up. CSP was left with some players BUT came in at a tough time to recruit, so we knew there would be a little bit of a drop off the past couple of years. This year was a little disappointing but we did win the Big 12 tournament and have some great young pieces going forward. The future is bright my friend.

You are right. I will admit I have probably rode to high of standards for the program since about Monte's 2nd season. Its been a hard fall back to reality. I just have to deflated feeling like I did during the Greg McDermott years though. Been tough to shake.

Really curious on the salary details. Here's what I'm thinking: raise base to 2.2 or 2.3, add 75k a year before bonuses, bonuses for winning conference, winning conference tourney, and growing bonuses every step past the round of 32.

Woo we got the Paul Rhoads of the hard wood till 2025. Lowering expectation meter drastically.

New settings calibrated at 5th place in the conference, first round NCAA tourney loss, with 60% likelihood of bubble team.

Hilton attendance down roughly 3% APY

Frustration of inbounds plays, offensive execution, and off court drama up roughly 10% APY.

Going to be a great half decade guys.

Woo we still have shi*ty people out here like you!

Finishing 5th in the conference when projected to finish 6th. No one had us in the tourney when the year started and if they did it was a bubble team.

Hilton still rocks and will always rock. People show up, that argument is dumb.

You're right, Prohm is the one out there executing the inbound plays, and offense. Off court drama? Please.. fights happen all the time during the year with teams. It's not drama, its being competitive.

Sit and spin, man.

I get it, as Cyclone fans we have come to expect bad things to happen. But a lot of good has happened recently to our athletic programs, and I truly believe we are on the right path with CSP.

Idk how to feel about this. Not really a Prohm hater, but we have to see an improvement for this to be a good thing. We can’t continue to underachieve. I like him as a guy and everything, I’m just not totally sold on his coaching.
Like a last place in the conference to 5th, while winning a Big 12 tournament and taking us to the NCAAs type of improvement?

Some people are unhappy unless we win a Natty every year.

This year was one of the best years in program history.

It was not the best year in program history (as it might have looked late in January before the slide occurred), so we are going to live with a little disappointment and frustration* that we did not reach our highest ambitions, but the totality of the year was still very good. It was one of the best. I am excited to see what he can do to match it or better it next season.

*and my foot still hurts from kicking a railing in Tulsa as I say this

Let's go hire an offense minded assistant now. Let CSP handle recruiting and the defense but we need an offense genius to help with set plays, inbounds, etc. Then the sky is really the limit. Glad to see we locked him up.

Let me Prohm be a defensive minded coach!

How is this STILL a thing?

From what I’ve seen it’s only a 3 year extension. Not exactly long term if you ask me. He will still have to prove himself a bit, but I don’t see this thing Morganing out of control spinning off into a Mcdermotting. So if he is not able to improve but remains consistent we are looking at mid-Big12/NCAA year in and year out and can revisit in 5-6 years...

If making the tournament 3 out his first 4 years is considered under achieving I’ll take it
Depends what the expectations are. Is just making the tournament enough? We should aspire to accomplish more than that.

Georges' senior year we should could/should have done better than Sweet Sixteen. Monte's senior year we could/should have done better than 2nd round exit. Those two teams were LOADED. Last year sucked. This year we were a great weekend in KC away from being pretty disappointed overall.

I'm glad we kept Prohm because the continuity is nice and I'd rather than him than TJ Otzelberger but we definitely have room for improvement going forward.

I'm in the area of the jury still being out on CSP, but I do like him and think there is a high ceiling with him and crossing my fingers on that ceiling being hit. If he would have left though that would have been real bad and I'm glad we are keeping him.
