Coach Matt A to St. Johns

Re: Coach Matt A

Fred Hoiberg has proven he's a great coach. Chris Mullin is an NBA Hall of Famer? Do you not see how having worked under those two coaches gives you a great set of credentials? Plus the job is your dream job? It's a no-brainer, and anyone who didn't see that definitely had the cardinal-colored blinders on.

Agree, if things work out and are successful for Mullin. If Mullin doesn't work out, Matt's his last piece of work will look like a failure. Not saying he would be a failure, but people look at what you've done lately.

If Mullin is successful, Matt will look like a genius, but to just ignore the potential of failure is short sighted.

I am far from wearing cardinal colored glasses about this. I'm fine if he goes and understands his motives, but I also see the potential down side here. Mullin is far from proven as a head coach.

When you have such a high turn over year after year and your primary recruiter ditch the program, you know you are in trouble. There is no other way to put it. Ames just isn't an attractive place to live or work for anyone pass the age of 24 (unless if you have ties with the town).

I know...the truth hurts.

I will give you credit... you are committed to your stupidity.

you are only wearing those glasses. Worst case scenario for Matt is he has to get another asst job in a few years, with his growing resume he'd be a shoe in for a power conference team regardless of how Mullin does.

Re: Coach Matt A

Involved, sure.. but Matt was the main guy doing the recruiting work.

The time period for transfers is only a few weeks to a month correct? (probably different for Royce) a lot different than hs recruiting.

Who cut the ....I mean moved my cheese? Having program that regularly has assistants picked off the ultimate compliment. If we had the same staff over a 5 year period I would be worried.
Can't have it both ways gents. Kudos to Fred for developing players and staff.

Re: Coach Matt A

I am going to miss MA as much as the next guy, but you don't come to play basketball at a school because the assistant coach is a nice guy.

Exactly. The salesman might be gone but the selling points are still here.

I have been fearing this day for the past couple years. Good luck Matt. Next man in Fred. I want someone young and hungry with NYC connections.

@TravisHines21: Spoke to Matt Abdelmassih. Regarding ISU: "My plan is to be at the Final Four watching them play in it ...I know I’m leaving a top-5 team."

Abdelmassih brought in:

Hallice Cooke @Hallywood_03: Genuinely going to miss @mabde33 thank you for giving me the opportunity to join #cyclONEnation & best of luck in NYC! See you back East

Giorgos Tsalmpouris @gtsalmpo34: My best wishes and good luck to @mabde33 !! Thanks for everything coach, I owe you a lot!!

Jameel McKay @ShowTime_McKay: Will Forsure miss @mabde33 no way I'm where I'm at today without his help and guidance wish him nothing but the best Much Love

I bet Fred has 100 resumes across his desk. Based on recent history, you come coach for Fred, you get opportunities to get where you want to go.

@TravisHines21: Hoiberg: "Even when I would go out and recruit with Matt in New York, it was like a kid in a candy store. He absolutely loves it out there."

@TravisHines21: Hoiberg: "I’m really happy for Matt. It’s his home. He gets to go back to his alma mater. It’s a special, special place to him."
