Coach Campbell

If Campbell is really all about Ames, as he has said in the past, I don't think he should have any issue signing a contract extension with a the buyout clause that is currently in the contract he has now (100% of remaining contract which on this contract would only be 2.9 mil). That is honestly the only way I feel comfortable with him staying year to year. Pay him 2.5 mil total comp/yr for 5 years and then put in incentives. Hoiberg was making 2.6 mil/yr at the end of his run in Ames. This should be just as high of a priority.

We can afford it, it just means that the other sports will suffer more like they used to before these huge TV contracts. Were getting $10s of millions from the Big 12, we can pay Campbell whatever we want practically, it just means tennis and golf and swimming, and the others will suffer. Its sad, but thats the reality if you want to keep coaches these days.

You have to spend money to make money. If you dont pay the moneymakers (football and basketball), you cant afford the sports that are money pits.

This is not enough salary for what he will be generating in revenue if he is here for the long haul.

JP isn’t cheap and he is a lot smarter than most on this board.
If anyone is cheap, it is our own fans. Always have been tightwads. Many like to complain about JP but then refuse to pay to play. Dems the facts.
You have never meet the man. He is your typical accountant. The PC word for him is fiscally conservative.

I agree, but you can't be on the hook for a huge amount if things go south. 2 year deals that increase to 1-1.5 million/year would be better but make it easier to poach due to the low buyout.

We are 8 yrs away from the expiration of the Big12 GOR and potentially the next round of realignment. We need to pay enough to put him in the top half of BCS salaries. I don't expect him to be here for 8 yrs but we need to keep him here long enough to establish a winning program like Fred did with BBall.

Why can’t you? If it goes south we’re exactly where we’ve been before by not paying top money. This isn’t about value.

Ideally you give him all you can and extend a few more years, but if tacking on even more years makes a difference, you do it.

Disagree. Winning football is the best investment we can make in other, more minor sports. Winning football == $$$$. You pay anyone who can bring that to ISU whatever they want.
Completely agree. It's an opportunity that ISU definitely needs to exploit To paraphrase CMC himself, the schools that achieve ultimate success are the ones who react most effectively to the adversity of success.

The difference is..... you don't give Campbell a 10 year deal like we did with Rhoads.

Extend Matt out to 5 or 6 years for some good money.

Also Campbell has ISU playing perhaps the best football they've every played over a 3 game stretch, KU game be damned; 45-0 conference win is legit.

2 of the 3 didn't want to be at ISU. The other turned out to be a not so great coach.

Keep the ones that want to be at ISU!

Completely untrue. Cael wanted to be here but JP wouldn't pay him above market price. JP essentially told CFH, in a public manner, that Iowa State can only pay so much. CFH was 2.3 million a year at the time.
