Great article and a great kid, can't wait to see him play for the good guys. I had no idea Okie State was recruiting him that hard and that he wanted to commit before taking his visit to Ames. I'm not surprised though......once you sit down and talk with Fred or do a little research on Fred........game over. :)

Thanks for posting.

Can't wait to see this guy in Cardinal and Gold! He's big time down here in KC - he'll be great within Fred's system.

Nothing stings Iowa State fans, including Custer, more than talking about their home loss to Kansas on ESPN’s Big Monday last season.Custer called Fritz at 11 p.m. after the game and when the coach didn’t answer, because as Fritz explains it, he was sleeping, Custer asked his mom to drive him over to Fritz’s house. He needed a way to get into the gym and Fritz had the key.
For almost two hours after midnight on Monday, fueled by anger and focus, Custer worked out with his mom there watching and shagging balls for him.
In case he wasn’t before this night, he was now a full-blown Cyclone.

LOVE THIS.

Clayton, you have our permission to take as much revenge on KU as you want.

I love this kid already. Gonna be a great addition to the program.

Really wish we would have landed that Grandstaff kid as well as I believe the 2 of them are friends. I suppose we still could

This is my favorite part of that article. He was so ****** after that game he went in the middle of the night to workout. These are the types of players ISU needs. Great work ethic and an insane will to win.

Last night it occurred to me that the best description for the guys that Fred has been bringing in: competitors. This guy looks to fit the profile!

That they certainly are, but that doesn't quite sum up the similarities to me, especially the similarities between the highly ranked HS recruits: Niang, Thomas, Morris, Custer. If I tried to sum it up in 1 word, it'd be 'winners'. They are all well spoken, high character, high effort, high basketball IQ guys who have succeeded at everything they've done, on and off the court. Basically, Fred has successfully recruited kids like have the same qualities he has.

Okay, I need to set the koolaid down for a bit.

Personally, I can't wait to see what this team looks like next year, but especially what it looks like when Niang, Nader, Naz, and McKay are seniors, Morris, SDW, and Thomas are juniors, Custer is a sophomore, and whoever else is added between now and then....like maybe some 5 star recruits for a year or two. It's hard not to drink the Kool-aid when you think about the future of this program.

Great article. He is going to be an outstanding Cyclone! I had no idea he was so close to committing to Okie State.
