Agree. There are stills tons of fans who have no idea of what ISU is up against regarding facilities and athletics budgets. That is why although I am waiting for better results on the field to be convinced Chizik was the right hire, I know what HAS to happen for anyone, including Gene, to succeed here. Some things already have: increased budget, coaches' pay, more support staff, etc. This, plus all of the facilities improvements, increases expectations, more than Mac (and certainly Walden) ever had. It's a new era in Cyclone sports, that's for sure.
It's a process, and certainly one that Iowa State fell way behind in. Walden had no money, facilities, anything. JTS in 1993 was awful. The turf was like concrete.
Mac got more because Gene Smith had made an investment in him. He won enough to get the IPF, which was a huge step.
Now Chizik gets more than Mac because Jamie Pollard has an investment in him.
We will see what happens. If Gene wins, then the next guy will have more than he had because whoever is the AD will have an investment in him.
