Came across this article on the ESPN CF homepage. Talks about Chiz and him going to AU. This part just angered me.

Mark Schlabach: Gene Chizik ready to turn the Auburn Tigers around - ESPN

"I have no question in my mind that we were definitely on the right track," Chizik said. "Last year, we played with a brand-new quarterback and 11 true freshmen. We were starting a bunch of them. That's hard to do in that league. There's no question we were going to win a lot of games in Years 3 and 4, which was our plan all along. We did it right from the time we walked in the door to the time we left. There's no doubt that place is better off now than from when we inherited it."

Nothing like being able to be cocky without having to ever back it up. We all know he brought in some good players who I cheer for as hard as possible, but his ****poor gameday coaching wouldn't allow our players to succeed.

I hope he gets creamed by Saben and Co. every year!!

I guess he forgot to let everyone know the plan included sucking in years 1 and 2, poor gameplans and poor in-game adjustments.

It was all part of his grand scheme.

"We've got some deficiencies right now and we've got to overcome that," Chizik said. "I think there's a difference from 2004. Depth is an issue at this point, and I think that's glaring. I left here in 2004, and compared to now, it's a different-looking team physically. We've got to ramp it up, and I think we can do that."
According to Chizik, he faces a similar rebuilding job at Auburn. The Tigers' talent level slipped in Tuberville's last few seasons, and the team seemed to lack much direction last year.
"Auburn football is down a little bit right now, and we have to get it back to where it was and to where people are proud of it again," Chizik said. "We're going to do that."

Ole' boy Gene I'm sure, yep that sure sounds familiar...
Wow...what a joke!

No kidding. If we fall on our faces the next 2 years, then he'll brush it off and say he wasn't around to make it work. What a d*ck.

You won't have to "hope" he gets worked by Saban and Alabama. Saban may be one of the best coaches in the country and Chizik is absolutely no match.

:skeptical:

I don't get it. I don't see where Chizik is being arrogant. Quite the opposite. In some ways I agree with him -- 11 freshmen starters and a new quarterback and all.

I guess I could have done without the "left it better than I found it" comment, but isn't that why many of us wanted the football program to go in a different direction? The program under McCarney the last couple of years was spiriling downward.

It's true.

Regardless if true or not he underpeformed in his two years. Those teams where capable of performing better and winning more games.

If he were still here we would win more games in years 3 and 4 but at the same time it is evident that other coaches would win more games than him in years 3 and 4.

He can't stand Saban...but I can't wait to see ol' Gene get absolutely waxed by them.

I wonder if he figured out how to manage the play clock

I don't want to be a Chizik apologist, but just looking at the young talent out there, I DO think that he would have turned it around. There were some coaching issues, but I think that we blow out of proportion the clock managment at iowa and the last play vs CU. Basically two plays out of the whole year and Chizik demoted both coordinators.

It's tough to compare staffs since Chizik was going to hire new coordinators. But, I do think that Rhoads has a better teaching staff. Chizik's staff IMO had better recruiters. But I do think that we're in better shape now because when/if Rhoads turns it around we know he'll stay. Chizik was looking to bail...he just got out a year earlier than he thought he would.

I guess I should have added what Incyte brought up. It would have been "nice" of him to say something like, "It was my first head coaching job, and I made a lot mistakes as well and it cost ISU some victories. I have, however, learned from those mistakes."

I guess I can see where his comments could be considered arrogant, but at the same time, I think he did give ISU some good publicity in the statement.

Just like cael i would have took the job to make an extra million. Its Auburn. And yes he is a terrible coach which auburn will soon find out but even if he gets booted from auburn a top program will take him for a d-cordiantor position and he will still be making close to a million a year. plus i would rather have cpr than chizik

His Record (5-19) > His words. As far as Im concerned, his actions and quality of product on the field is enough for me to not even care what the boy(he's no man) has to say about any topic.

If year 3 and 4 were his plans to win big, then why didn't he redshirt Bates?

I can't remember, but didn't Bates already have a redshirt year?

Nope. He's using it this year. We burned Bates' redshirt for a 3-9 team and the only thing he really did was make that catch against Iowa.
