I used to drive to Chicago, well Rosemont, for work years ago. Anyone know how much the tolls on 88 are currently?

Looks like $10.20 to take 88 all the way from Sterling to the Eisenhower, half that if you use I-Pass.

Would be amazing if there was a Euro style high speed train from Des Moines to Chicago.

As nice as it would be to have high speed train service (or really any real train service) the opportunity for that was decades ago. The cost now would be astronomical let alone trying to obtain the property to run the service.

Doesn't Amtrak still run from IC to Chicago? Think it goes by Osceola (however you spell that town) and I pass under or over their tracks when heading south of I35 to KC

It goes through Mount Pleasant and Fort Madison on this side of the state.

I met a lot of people from the Chicago area in college. I have no problem when people who are from Naperville or Crystal Lake say they live in Chicago. However, no joke, some guy told me once he lived in Chicago, and when I asked what suburb, he told me Rockford.

I view Naperville the same. That's why I compared it to ames/dsm. I am happy living in Iowa now. Our neighborhoods, oak park, Berwyn, Riverside really had small town atmosphere when I grew up.

Agreed. They could easily have a high speed rail at a minimum - Chicago > Des Moines > Omaha > Denver

Fort Dodge has the same thing. I just mad they got rid of AIr Choice One. Single engine, eight seat plane fly below cloud level, and always had cell service. Negatives- no bathroom and landings were eventful every once in awhile.
