What do you guys think of Carmax? I sold a car there once, but didn't buy b/c it seems like their prices are kinda high, considering it's "no haggle."
I had a great experience buying the wife's current car there. Price was quite a bit lower than same car at a bigger dealership - could have potentially haggled at the other one to get it the same or slightly lower, but not worth it to me. The car we chose was located in Minneapolis so they shipped it to DSM for us (no obligation).
They also offered more for my wife's hunk of junk prior car than I was ever expecting to get.
I was ready to go buy it and then I looked at the safety ratings. My wife would not allow this.

Www.autotempest.com is a good tool. Look for a private party 4 cylinder camry automatic with maintenance records.
I appreciate the lead. Since it wasn't rated for side impact in that body style we will pass. But this is the kind of lead I was hoping for. So thanks!
Find a minivan. They are super cheap, super dependable and they have a lot of room which he may appreciate in the future.
Their prices are quite high for no-haggle. But some are suckers for advertising.
If you go into a traditional new or used car dealership and pay what they're asking, it'll be a great hassle free experience there as well.
I was going to say the opposite. I drove a regular cab pickup (no back seat) in college. It got me around just fine, but I never had to drive when the 4 of us roommates needed to go somewhere.
Though there were a few times when 4 or 5 people crammed into the cab of that thing. Usually after midnight . . .

Definitely check out Beach Girls. Definitely cheaper than Lumberyard but the quality is more questionable, fwiw. If you want the cheapest but lowest quality, outer limits is where you want to be.
Regardless, you'll find a lot of different makes and body types. Quality is where it gets tricky.

many high school driving memories in either my parents van or somebody else's van, on second thought this idea is terrible (Insert Laughing Emoji x10) but yes a mid 2000s dodge caravan can be picked up for cheap and can run almost forever.
Like the Buick's being the farmer's special, the Dodge Caravan is the "contractor's" vehicle of choice.
