CF Pickup Basketball

Farnsy, find somewhere to play in DM and tell me

I've tried researching this quite a bit but getting pick-up going at night seems rough in DSM. Well of course you are a member of a big gym and play with other gym members, day passes are always 12-15 bucks.

The only hope I really see is getting a solid group of people together and approaching a middle or high school for court time. If we could pull around 10 guys together I think we'd have enough to host a weekly game, and then could explore gym space/time.

I have a Y pass and I went one night to the Waukee Y for pickup but it was pretty lame. I was the best player on my team which isn't very good. I should be 3rd best or so.

DSM peeps. I would possibly be down. There's an elementary school about 2 blocks away that used to have pick up 3 night a week. Not sure if they still do it.

Playing around Dsm has me nervous. For some reason I feel like it's gonna be all ex college bball players. I used to hold my own at Lied pretty well with the guys I rolled with her but I could see the completion being way better. As an out of shape 6 foot 3 post player, I'd get dominated.

Only issue going forward playing in Ames is that most us are not students, and a student can only sponsor a couple people. last time the majority got lucky because of the fire alarm. We may need to look into a place like Forker where no pass is needed or go to city hall gym. Ames city hall open gym is only like 1.50 much cheaper than the $6 it costs at lied.

WDM resident here as well. Anyone ever checked out this place? http://www.ohanasportscomplex.com/open-gym-page.php Guy at work was talkin about this, $20 a month to play pick up and there's quite a few days a week with pick up games available.
I play volleyball there. There are four courts which almost always have nets up on all of them and the hoops are rarely down. At least that's how it is on Wednesdays and Fridays. I can't speak to the other days of the week but I'm pretty sure they have club practices and lessons on a couple of the courts every day.

Well shoot, that place was looking promising based on the website.
