Voted for David as I am a Cyclone fan.

As a wrestling fan, I think Gable Steveson deserves the Hodge. Was extremely dominant in a very tough weight class. Spencer Lee was also insanely dominant, but I give Gable the edge as Hwt was a much tougher weight than 125 this year. Plus Spencer won last year and it's nice to share :)

The ranking above is actually pretty clear statistically, based on virtually any metric. 1 and 2 are relatively close.

Voted for the most dominant wrestler (Spencer). Seeing Carr as the clear 3rd option behind only Spencer and Gable is very impressive and makes me really excited for his future. I think he still has room to grow.

IMO Carr made a big step forward from last year to this year. I'm hopeful he can continue to make similar strides of improvement (along with the rest of our guys). I was most worried about Hidlay and he took care of him without putting himself at risk. With Lee from MN he had his closest match, made one mistake at the end giving up that reversal (credit to Lee on a great roll) but he didn't panic and executed a great re-shot in OT for the TD & W. He's a great leader to have in the room for others to emulate.

Agree. He was more dominant this year. I think you can see the influence of Metcalf in this aspect. He was really pushing the pace much more.

I definitely panicked a lot more than him when he gave up that reversal. Knowing Lee’s strength is his gas tank I was very worried. Carr stayed calm and got the job done then looked great in the semis and finals.

To me, the next step for David is adding strong tilts that he can use against the top ranked guys. David was very good at tilting lower ranked guys, and if he can work those against the top ranked guys, I think you see him start to get into that Spencer Lee level of unbeatable at 157 where no matter who steps on the mat against him, you expect him to win by 6+ points. He proved he could ride the top ranked guys, next step is to turn them. Also probably needs to add some strength as Deakin and Hidlay aren't going anywhere and are very strong 157 lbers.

Think Deakin and Hidlay come back? Haven't seen Deakin post/announce anything, social media says Hidlay's decision is coming out tomorrow afternoon.

I guess if they're healthy they probably will.

I don't see Carr losing to Hidlay again. Their semifinal match wasn't as close as the score. Deakin is so big and so tough defensively, he'll probably still be a tough matchup.

Good point. Forgot both those guys were redshirt seniors. Will be interesting to see what they decide

My guess is they both come back. They are still hungry for a title I’m sure. I also think both will stay in the cycle through 2024 so why not?
 
I think the key with David is playing the long game. Keep him healthy and make sure he is rested for nationals each year. We are seeing the effects of the grind for the guys that are around for 5, and 6, and 7 years. For some of our guys, it has obviously not worked out in their later years. I know everyone has their own opinion of Cael ( or Carl, or Bael, depending on your point of view) but he does seem to have his top flight stars healthy, rested, and focused when it matters on Friday and Saturday nights during nationals. This has proven to be one of his very strong points as a coach, and I think it is the sensible approach if we want to get to the next level. Here’s hoping that Carr and Dresser and Metcalf can do the same; and lead us to where we want to go.
