Car Buying Process

38 replies and not a single one  addressing the single most critical feature of your next car? I am here (again) to preach the gospel of COLOR! Nothing is more important than picking a car with a cool color. If the color itself doesn't wow you than the cool name of the color should, like Ocean Blue Pearl Effect, British Racing Green, Metallic Meridian, etc.

I’m more partial to the Polished Turd hue.

I will say, the colors on the lot are normally awful. Why the hell is that?

Go for what works best for you and what you are comfortable with. I don’t really get the used car fascination for cheaper cars. I got a brand new Corolla for like 19k total after all fees and stuff. Yet when I would look at comparable older used ones it wasn’t really cheaper. I suggest valuing the confidence and maintenance advantages of a new car. I won’t have to pay anything other than my car payment, insurance, registration, and gas for 2 years. Not sure what deals you can get with used vehicles but I found that made the differences negligible.
Also echo put as much down that you are comfortable. Get it paid as quick as possible. I’m not doing as much as I’d like but I’m also saving for my next purchase in a house.

That's because the Color Illuminati insiders, like me, have already grabbed the best colors. The regular grays hit the lot, stuff like Monsoon Gray Metallic gets picked off before that. ;)

1. Get a car fax - too many flood cars in the system. Although if your going through a reputable dealer that should't be a problem.

2. Get ready to be bent over.

3. Look into pre paid maintenance.

4. Get ready to be bent over.

5. Id look at a smaller town dealership to see if you can get the same car for less (Granger, Marshalltown, Indianola.

6. And of course, Get ready to be bent over.

I second the Autotrader/Cars internet options.

I spent a few months looking for used trucks with <30k miles and a 2017 with <100 miles kept sitting there. It was an hour away and pretty much exactly what I wanted, but initially more than I wanted to spend. Once I was ready to pull the trigger and was in serious talks with a couple other dealers, I e-mailed about the one I really wanted and they got close enough to make it worth the difference in miles.

First choice would definitely be matte black or grey. Since those are most likely out of the equation I'd go with black!

I'll go even further to say my heart is set on a dodge challenger. But as others have said I really can't be set and have to look at all options :(

Why does everyone want to put as much as you can down? You can get pretty low rates right now depending on the car/dealer.
So if that car turns into a car you're putting too much money into you can trade it off and not take a second kick in the shorts rolling the loan excess over trade into a new vehicle.

And it gets you that much closer to the next vehicle requiring less financing, or getting a nicer vehicle next time with the same financing.

There is however something to be said for having that money in your pocket. All personal preference.

Best car buying experience I've ever had hands down was at Willis in Des Moines. Worst was easily Pat Clemons in Boone.

Odd, worst I ever had by far was Moffit Ford in Boone. Must be the water.

Black is the worst color to keep clean.

For what its worth- I had a great car buying experience at Budget Rental in Cedar Rapids Iowa. They had three of the cars I wanted in various colors. I buy cars with 40,000 or less miles. I got the car I wanted in the color I wanted for 2,000 less than any dealer was willing to offer me on the same car. I researched for a year so I knew what I wanted and that the cars I was looking at had no issues. Used this site to research https://www.carcomplaints.com/
