Talking to a buddy of mine and we think we could be in for a special season this year. We have a chance to make last season look mediocre in comparison. Can't wait!
Can we make a big run this year?

We're gonna have to get by the Campbell fighting camels to do it.. tough task. They usually circle one game a year as their "super bowl" and beat some really great team..then get blown out by everyone else the rest of the year. Hopefully they don't choose us.
Um, UNLV says hello. They're a top 15 team this year and if we play them, it will be a virtual home game for them. That will be by far our toughest test during the non-conference schedule.
Playing them early in the year would be the time to..they'll have a younger team this year. I'm pretty sure they lost most of their starters from last year, but still lots of talent.
Going undefeated in the non-conference seems to get thrown around every year we think we may have a decent team. Its just not that easy. Basketball is a sport where you may just have a bad shooting day while the other team is hot. Going undefeated for a stretch of games against any competition isn't easy.
do we plan on losing to drake this year? generally we have a good year when they beat us. but that is straight embeerassing that they beat us last year. i hope we curb stomp them.
Funny thing though that we beat them by like 45 or whatever it was 2 years ago when we had a crapass team & last year we lose to them. Wierd deal.

We tend to lose at Drake, but we've never played them at Wells Fargo. I don't know if the old trend continues or if we're starting something new.
Just curious what you define as special? Last year we were 23-11 and came in 3rd in the Big XII. I don't see much improvement on that, certainly not the type to make last year look mediocre.
I think it will be very similar to last year. Stay away from the #1 seed in the tournament and who knows but I don't see a "special" season as far as number of wins go. The Big 12 will be pretty tough.

At least this year we'll have a real point guard with a more traditional offense. The guys were still trying to figure things out last season.
After witnessing last years game in person, I too hope we stomp them haha.
We were barely 3rd in the Big XII and lost the first round of the Big XII tourney.
I think if we eliminate the bad losses in the non conference, turn a couple of those close road losses last year into wins, protect home court again, and win a couple in the Big XII tourney, we could make last year look mediocre.
If we do those things, I'd say we'd be looking at a 3 to 5 seed in the NCAA tournament.
Not trying to put the cart before the horse though. Let's take it one game at a time.

I expect Booker to get out on a fast break, which means that we will make a big run.
But he'll be making the choice to run, so it's possible that 'make' isn't the right word here. Encourage, maybe?

The possibility of making a big run is always there, like everyone always says, it comes down to how we gel as a team. We are losing a lot, our floor leader, a clutch shooter, and another scorer.
I'm a little nervous that Iowa might be a lot tougher then it should be. We don't play all that well there and they are coming up. I'm hoping this team is deep and can rely on the newcomers to be as good as advertised.
If anything, the transfers having a year of great competition against last year's team and the fact that our system is pretty much installed, should help us. I hope we have a great run, but I'm nervous for some reason.

I think the key to our top-end success this year will be defense/ toughness and smarts/ experience.
I really like our roster (like most fans), and i dont think we have any huge holes (light in the post maybe) but if we're all being objective, we are mid-level in the conference talent-wise.
KU, Texas, OSU, Baylor all have more talented players. If we can bring on a Eustachy/ Floyd-level defense and toughness, I think we can even the playing field. We'll also be one of the most experienced teams in the conf with our 5 seniors - we'll need to make that mean something, and limit mistakes that a young, but talented team will make.
