not to burst your bubble but the magic was dead long before McDermott got here.
I think everyone knows Hilton Magic isnt what it used to be. I think we as fans need to do something to help bring this back. Id like to see a little help from Pollard, Cyclone alley committe and whoever else is in charge of the experience at Hilton. What really brought this on is I watched the Duke Unc game last night and Duke's whole student section was dressed up, painted, jumping up and down, and doing chants the whole game. Thats the atmosphere Hilton needs and used to have. Also someone just posted a thread of a dance Kansas fans did. I think we need to have someone start some of this and do away with the family friendly atmosphere were going for lately cause its killing the magic. Who do we need to talk to to get some better songs at timeouts that people can dance to, sing to, and get people excited. Like Welcome to the Jungle, or We will rock you type of songs. They play some of them but not enought. Also lets get some cheers started after 3 pointers, dunks, opponent free throws, blocked shots and other big plays. The band does some of this now Cyclone Alley needs to follow. See if we can make strides toward getting the magic back before next year! Kind of set the mood. What do you think?
At the risk of being ridiculed as an "old geezer" that remembers his time at ISU with heavy rose-colored glasses, I offer up the following...and please remember I was there before "it" had the name "Hilton Magic" (back when it really did exist):
+ No one person or group can be "in charge" of creating the "experience"...you can't create the magic...it just happens. In fact, it would appear that too many efforts have been made to manufacture this in recent years (the advent of Cyclone Alley, for example).
+ "Better songs at timeouts"? Back before "it" had the name "Hilton Magic", the only "songs" we heard were from our Pep Band during the timeouts...primarily the Fight Song...

It begins and ends with the students. CA is not the answer, enthusiasm shouldn't need to be rehearsed and an offer for a free tshirt shouldn't be the draw to the game. Like others have said, winning is the answer. Think about how old students were when we had a team worth a damn....8-12 years old maybe? Most may vaguely remember the Fizer/Tinsley years but other than that they have no real reason to get excited. When was the last game at Hilton that really actually any affect on postseason or a conference title? When you get students at the games for reasons other than the social aspect or a tshirt the magic will return, that's what Freddie is here for.
