Yes, I am still going over & over all the numbers involved in our possible new vehicle purchase. What do you actually get for gas mileage? And what percentage city vs. highway is it based on? Thanks again (and again)!! We also drove a Prius which was pretty cool with all the bells & whistles but were told they have not had a financing incentive yet of any kind and rarely even a cash back because of it's popularity.

We had a 2001 Camry w/4cyl. Got about 28mpg not babying it. Mostly driving 75-80 from Johnston to downtown.
Just got rid of an 04 Accord and I liked that car a lot better. It also had a 4cyl and got about the same mileage but had more power and less float.
The new Prius is supposed to be very nice. It really comes down to whether you want to pay $4-5K more for lesser of a car but that gets 15mpg better. I'm guessing the Prius will have better resale value but I bet you can get a big discount on the Camry.
Both were 100% reliable.
I have a '97 w/150,000 miles - gets about 22mpg here in Mpls. (6 cyl and also going strong). Nice to see I can expect 270,000+!
The 2010 front end looks like a clown car but that just my opinion. From what I've heard the Mazda3 (I have a Mazdaspeed 3) gets a little worse gas mileage than cars like the Civic, Corolla, etc but is a lot more fun and if you get the hatch a lot more room. I would expect it to get 32mpg since it's a compact.
I assume you mean on the highway?
Heck the corvette will get 30mpg on the highway. It's all about gearing.
Camry's are a little bigger now. Carollas do get in the mid 30s.
I think my wife and I's car average around 30 because we do mostly highway. We drove to KC and back on Saturday and we got about 33 or 34 with ethanol which is pretty good IMO.
That's why I'm surprised. My Vette is 7.0 L and 505 hp. As of last weekend my lifetime average is 22mpg. I get 31 to 33 on the interstate going 70. I'm not old so I don't baby it. I've had Camry people ask me how I can hate the environment enough to have such a car.

I would have asked those people how they can hate the environment enough by spewing their hate in my direction about owning such a car when keeping their mouths shut would undoubtedly prevent them from putting so much CO2 into the air...
Like I said, it's a lot about gearing. At 70mph you're probably at about 2K rpm. If you drive the corvette like it's supposed to be driven you won't get anything close to 20mpg.
I really find it hard to believe that there are "camry people" who have actually said that to you. I can see if people give someone a dirty look that drives a Hummer but most "camry people" I know could care less what others are driving and drive the Camry because it's a reliable/comfortable vehicle with good resale. I must be a badass or something
but I've never had anyone say anything negative to my face about a car I drive and I've had a lot of stupid cars.Maybe it's a jealousy issue. I've never had a car worth anything near 75K so you would know more than me.

We have had three Camrys (94, 2000, and 2009), and all have been economical, reliable, and comfortable. On our 94 and 2000 we always got between 30 and 32 mpg, while driving from 68 to 73 mph, and as an experiment, I drove between 60 and 65 mph last year with the 94 and got about 34 mpg. We have not had the 20009 long enough to do a reliable test yet (still under 600 miles), but I am going to be surprised if we do not get the 31 mpg as advertised, but of course we don't go over 75 in most instances, even in Neb.
