Campustown Redevelopment

Campustown could probably benefit from a comprehensive plan to help guide city and private development. That would hopefully give it some cohesion. I think the current council motioned to create such a plan, but it may have been postponed due to funding concerns at the onset of COVID. As for the Welch Ave project I agree not a big fan, the water quality improvements are nice but that's about it (although the aesthetics and the trees are subpar).

I agree. I have no hopes though - since I've been around that "Lot X" and main parts of the Campustown "block" have bedeviled and outlasted four ISU presidents now and who knows how many developer's "Concept Plans". I just searched "Lane4" (the old concept plans this reminded me of) and see you too have been on this beat on CF here since at least 2011 :)

Have to give credit to whoever owns that big old house tucked back there (that I imagine most Campustown visitors never even notice) just steadily collecting rent while plans come and go!

My friend lived there back in 2007. He had a studio and it wasn’t great back then.

Mexican place ("Cactus 2") has taken over the old Fuzzy's location along Lincoln Way.

Doing a quick search of the company at that address it seems they own some Brothers Bar and Grill locations. If so hopefully Covid doesn’t screw that up for them.
Still no word on the street as to what will become of this property? We've got to be approaching two years of this "bombed out" property sitting derelict.

They were approved for a demolition permit in May so hopefully the property will get cleaned up this summer at least. As for what will get built, I heard they focused on existing properties during the pandemic. So probably next year before they get building unfortunately.

$42M gift was announced yesterday for The Department of Industrial and Manufacturing Systems Engineering.

The new building will be built in the parking lot 3 below

Yep, wonder if it will have a rooftop bar/dining patio area. That would be a nice addition to campustown.

Edit* never mind I see the outdoor bar/dining area will be on the west side ground floor. Still a nice addition to campustown. There isn’t really a large scale restaurant like this in that area.
