Campbell Extended

Not sure if this has been mentioned yet, but I think the massive salaries that even Iowa State-type schools can now afford has changed the game for retaining good coaches (thanks to TV contracts with unpaid student athlete labor).

Unless you are after status, the added stress and expectations of a blue blood aren't really worth bumping your salary from $3M to $6M. At some point there are diminishing returns for overall happiness if you already have more money than you need.

Let's also not discount the job security side of this. Some coaches may be able to bump from $3M to $5M or so by jumping to a blue blood, but you may also lose your job within 18 months (hello FSU). The job security at a place like ISU is much higher than most jobs, so getting $4M per year here vs. $5.5M at an FSU, USC, etc could be MUCH more valuable long term - not only in comfort, etc, but also in $$.

I have to agree with you here. Campbell just doesn't seem like the type of guy who would actually commit to go to FSU, then change his mind at the last minute because of something JP was able to pull off last minute.

Don't get me wrong, not saying Campbell wouldn't leave, just that if he agreed to go to FSU, I don't think ISU could have done anything to change that. He just seems like he knows what he wants and wouldn't resort to tactics like that to get more.

Obviously I could be wrong, as this is all my opinion, but I feel like if Campbell would have agreed to the FSU job, he'd be there because he doesn't break agreements.

Wouldn't surprise me though, reading what these FSU people post, if FSU did make an offer and just assumed Campbell would take it. No way campbell agreed to anything with FSU without discussing it with JP. And no way JP told him he couldn't do what it would take to make him stay.
I believe if he had committed to another school, nothing could change it. Just my opinion.

They still get paid if they get fired

I dont get paid but it took me 5 years of executing at a very low level before my wife decided not to let me do the laundry.

Agreed,I learned incompetence in home duties is the best way to keep a marriage going. I do very little inside the house, but in return it costs me money for updates. A trade off I'm more than willing to accept.

Read today that Arkansas has stopped paying Bielema's buyout because they don't think he has tried hard enough to get decent job. Yet another reason to avoid that place.
Although I dont think Kiffin would succeed there, I'm hoping Kiffin stays at FAU just to screw with Arkansas more. Seems like there whole fanbase thinks Kiffin is a done deal.

Can’t say I’ve heard of that one before, didn’t know they even had to try

We’ve entered one of my favorite times of the offseason. The time when we see the coaches posing in pictures with recruits on Twitter ;). Always fun after a contract extension.

Aren't all people who call into sports shows dumb? How bored does one have to be to do that? My mind is blown by regular callers into sports shows.

Radio Host: We're up against the clock. Make your question quick.

Caller: Hello?

Radio Host: You're on the air. What's your question?

Caller: Hey! How's it going? Thanks for taking my call. I've been a loyal listener for years. You're the best in the business.

Drives me insane listening to sports radio.

I actually have even more of a problem with 99% of the hosts.

Fun read here:

One more Florida State head coaching candidate is seemingly off the board.

Iowa State's Matt Campbell has signed an extension with the Cyclones through the 2025 season. He currently makes $3.6 million per year, and the extension release said the new terms of his agreement would be released at a later date.

. . . With the extension, Campbell is likely out of the running for the FSU head coaching position.

The Democrat reported Tuesday that FSU is not expected to make a coaching hire until the weekend.

Campbell was among the Seminoles' top targets along with Penn State's James Franklin, Memphis' Mike Norvell, and Notre Dame's Brian Kelly after missing out on former Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops.
