I am in CO also and have a buddy here that grew up in Hawaii and the family still owns the house they grew up on. They built a new garage with an apartment and studio apartment to rent out, but hired 2 guys here, flew them out, bought all the equipment in HI and saved thousands.

UPDATE: Friend who always "knows a guy" gave me the name of a small, independent plumber. He said the venting all has to be replaced due to a change in city code, but he can easily do the whole job for $3200. Still a lot of money but when he explained to me what all needs to be done, it's not outrageous.

Jeepers, I thought a quote for $3,800 was bad for our Naples Fl water heater. Ended up using someone else for $800
