I just think Caleb hasn't been told "no" enough in his life. And if his mom's Twitter account is any evidence, he quite likely grew up being told he could do no wrong. And again.

By his reaction I wondered if he got knuckled in the junk. But if he did the way to sell it is to double over, not fall to the floor. if it was just the brush by contact the way to sell it is to quickly twist the body, not land and fall the floor. Poor execution on the flop. The defender barely touched him and he clearly flopped. There was contact but it was minimal and did not affect the shot at all. Maybe a foul by the letter of the law, but I would be white hot pissed if they called that on an ISU defender for 3 free throws.
I think they have to settle for lesser coaches because few outsiders want to go somewhere where they’re 8th fiddleTrue, but that's not why they suck.
They suck because they haven't made a good coaching hire in either sport for about 30 years.
Football since Holtz was there in 84-85:
John Gutekunst, Jim Wacker, Glen Mason, Tim Brewster, Jeff Horton, Jerry Kill, Tracy Claeys, P. J. Fleck
not exactly a hall of fame list - Mason was barely over .500 in 10 years.
BBall - Clem Haskins was there for 13 years, and managed 111-100 record. Tubby was there 6 years and was pretty good actually 124-81. Although I think BOTH got caught doing bad things iirc.
The others Monson, Molinari, Little Ricky, and Ben Johnson now - woof.
Put say, Klieman and TJ at Minny, with more money and more population, and they could be Top 10 programs, similar to Wisky when they had Bennett and Alvarez.
Not going to blast you because this is where I am at. Sometimes as a society I think we put too much underneath the mental health umbrella. Things can still be black and white, things like being mature or immature.I don’t want to downplay mental health as I have friends and colleagues who struggle with some pretty heavy stuff but to me it seems he just has really bad temper/anger problem and he has trouble controlling it.
Blast me if I’m out of line but that’s not a mental health issue it’s a not growing the F up issue.

I’m with the majority here and hope he’s ok as well but there are some pretty heavy assumptions that aren’t warranted imo.I don't think anyone should blast.
Most of the assumptions are just that. But it's clear the majority do wish he's OK/wish he would become OK.
Maybe not, but maybe we just didn't see it at that point. He could have been internalizing it as a young 18 y.o freshman trying to find his way on a team with older, bigger dudes. But when the behavior is new and sudden, it could easily be mental health. Caleb wasn’t a hot head his first year here. And TJ raved about him several times over the last two years. And TJ wanted him in Ames.
But Caleb was kind of open about his mental health on his "exit." That's probably a big reason why there's been speculation about that.I’m with the majority here and hope he’s ok as well but there are some pretty heavy assumptions that aren’t warranted imo.
99% of coaches have gotten after refs far worse every single night than Caleb did (even our own CMC) and no one questions their mental health.

I agree, TJ would not have wanted a player with toxic behavior to commit to him once and then again a second and third time. Something changed and in my opinion it was between his year 1 and 2, or possibly just during year 2 of his 2nd campaign in Ames. Not sure what, but like you said it is crappy for us to decide. We speculate because that is what we do on a message board. But it is crappy.Sure. Who the hell knows? But it sure seemed like this was a new issue just based on the fact that his coach wanted him to follow him again.
I just think it’s kind of crappy for us to decide what the problem is. It’s not our rodeo any more.
ThisDart on the wall, or him posting gaining like 14 lbs of lean mass in one month?
There's not a means or product on the market that can do that other than those that f with your hormones.
The kid needs some guidance, and I'm going to root for him even though I dislike Mizzou. He gave a lot to ISU, loves ISU, f'ed up but was gracious on the way out.
Regardless of what he might have going on, he still has to own accountability for what he's done and what he does moving forward.
Unusual comments by coach Gates. Even if there was some sort of plan for Grill to get a technical, I don't think it's a good look to say what he said.
I don't think there's been a player I can remember who's been more difficult as a fan to understand what's going on. Otz clearly chose his words when talking about Grill very carefully sometimes and then this Gates soundbite is weird. Whether he needs help, needs to mature, or is just misunderstood, all I can say is I wish him the best.
