From what I've seen, they're still going to be challenged to schedule a Big 12/Pac12/SEC/BIG caliber schedule every year.

Notre Dame has the tradition and media coverage to basically schedule a Big Ten type schedule without being a member.

I think this year's schedule is as strong as they're likely to get, it's good, but not quite Big 12 or Pac 12 good. They'll have Utah every year like we have Iowa, there's nothing that says they're Texas deal is going to go on forever. I doubt TCU will keep playing them annually as their conference connection fades.

Now if they join the Big 12 and we keep the 9 game schedule, they're in the same position as we are with the Utah game making their schedule a real meat grinder with only two slots to schedule non conf opponents including a home only pay day.

TV wise it's perfect for them to join. They keep all the good from their own network and still cash a much, much bigger Big 12 check.

I should have qualifed that with a "or keep their network in the big 12 too" haha. I think they jump at the chance to join the big 12. The pac 12 won't ever invite them, and what other AQ conference makes sense? They didn't gain much AQ wise going independent.

They also don't show interest in order to not look stupid if they don't get invited and to maintain leverage for whatever reasons.

How about Tulsa? Good size stadium. Good recuriting area. Should be able to recurit well if in the BIG 12.

As much as I would love it if TU was added (since I'm in town for at least the next 3 years) their stadium looks like a high school stadium compared to Jack Trice.

Definitely. My cousin went to TU Law, and when I'd go down to visit, I'd jog around campus. Chapman Stadium is freaking tiny. Makes you appreciate JTS when you see some of the mid major facilities. You also realize that Jack Trice is far closer to a typical BCS facility than it's given credit for.

I know Northwestern is not the gold standard, but their basketball arena is comparable to a big high school gym in DesMoines and not even on the same planet as Hilton. Their football stadium is easily worse than JT as well but it's not night and day like their basketball 'arena'.

Just bringing it up because it's my own local example living in Chicago. Of course I can drive 2.5 hours Northwest and go daaaaaaaaaaamn at Wisconsin's stadium. I've actually never been to South Bend which is very close but will be there for business in a month and I'm anxious to check out how that feels even though I won't be going to a game.

I know Baylor is a pipsqueak in the B12 but would their religious affiliations be enough to stir up an anti BYU sentiment with some of the schools?
I wouldn't think they could but Baylor does have a lot of friends in the legislature/state of Texas somehow.

If Baylor would be against it, I'd be like there's the door, don't let it hit you on the way out. Good luck finding another BCS conference

This. Beebe made a mistake not asking them to join.

People think A&M is beefed about Texas having money and power...but I'm sure BYU just loves the idea of Utah joining the Pac 12 and has no desire to match them. My @$$.

Even if A&M joins, Beebe should admit he was wrong, ask BYU to join, and the next time this $hitstorm happens we're in a little stronger position in market footprint, quality of football, and football tradition. The Big Ten did fine with 11 teams for nearly a couple decades.

I agree here. I said the same thing right when things were shaking down last summer and Beebe failed to act when CU and NU bailed. BYU should have been asked immediatly.....but, he played the wait it out game and didn't act....thus, giving the entire country the perception that the BIG 12 was going to fold.....or just fails to act in any way.

BYU is ripe for the taking. They would welcome the Big 12 with open arms....AQ Conference with tradition and a great TV package.....Utah left them in the wind....they would jump at the chance to again, be in an AQ conference. The Big Televen played with 11 for years....why didn't he act?

Yeah, they would be perfectly set up to have their own network...in fact, they already have it. They'd have to tear up their current ESPN deal, but that's not too big of an issue. I'd probably go with 9 next year and bring them in in 2013. BYU wouldn't be out anything if it doesnt' work out...just go back to being indy.

Of course BYU is interested in joining the Big XII if asked. They would immediately be in an AQ conference. That's enough reason right there. But they could also keep their network which is also a huge plus for them. IIRC, BYU was originally going to be in the Big XII until the Baylor alums in the Texas legislature got involved. If they get invited, they'll join.

The Big XII isn't going to invite a school like Tulsa for the same reason ISU didn't get an invite to the Big Ten last year. They are a non premiere school in a state the conference has no pressing desire to expand in.

Yeah, ISU's not a premier school. That's amusing considering we meet the academic criteria for admission to the Big Ten while newly minted member, Nebby, currently does not after getting kicked out of the AAU. It's kind of embarrassing that the Big Ten will have to rewrite their bylaws to accommodate their new little crown jewel.
