Who else wishes we had a bye week this season? I think with 9 conference games coming next season, a bye week is essential. I watched the replay the other night of the OSU game last season and the guys showed very little motivation in that game. I hope we do not see that happen again this season even without a bye week. But going forward I think a bye week is vital.

Yeah, put it right in the middle of at Oklahoma and at Texas. That'll shut those damn Cyclones up.

Actually we do have a bye week. The big 12 was nice enough to give it to us after the last game before the Big 12 championship....

Actually last year's open week and I believe this year's was changed due to ISU and KSU agreeing to earlier games so they could be played at Arrowhead. My understanding is that ISU would have had an open date somewhere in the heart of the season if that scheduling change had not happened.

I blame the Big 12 for a hell of a lot, but I don't think this one is on them.

This is a good point... we might not have a lot of time to prepare for oklahoma/texas during the season, but it'll give us extra time to prepare for the championship game against one of them when it counts

Without a championship game, there is the real possibility of having two bye weeks. There are 14 weeks to play 12 games.

No, ISU still had its bye week at the end of the season before the Utah-KSU deal. All that happened from that move was switching the dates.

ISU should have a bye week for the foreseeable future starting in 2011. The loss of the B12 Championship game and a 9 game conference schedule will mean the regular season will need to be extended into the first weekend in December to keep the B12 in the Media on Championship Saturday.

This is from early this year. The change I am talking about is when KSU and ISU were first striking the deal for a two game series in Arrowhead which would have put the changes before the start of the 2009 season.

We have all off season to get ready for next season. I don't think we need a bye week this year to get ready for the 9 game conference schedule next year.

Mark me down for not wanting any bye weeks. First, byes have not been kind to ISU - something like a 2-4 record following recent byes. Second, it messes up the routine for players, coaches, and fans.

If you are coming off a loss, it's another week to have to live with the disappointment. If you are coming off a win, you risk losing your momentum. It's more of a myth that the week off gives you a chance to get healthy. One reason is that you simply can't time your season's injuries to occur going into the bye week. If a player is seriously banged up, an extra week doesn't guarantee that they get healthy in a week. Last year guys like AA and A-Rob sat out a week and were still hurting when play resumed.

ISU did not have a bye-week before the K-State at Arrowhead deal. That is a rumor that is continually stated on this board year after year. Do a search on this board for a similar thread and you will find a link to an article by the Kansas City Star. The article was published the day before the Arrowhead deal was announced. The KC Star article claimed that both ISU and K-State had open dates the weekend of Thanksgiving, so it was possible the schools might elect to move the game to the end of November. That obviously didn't turn out to be the case.

It's the Big XII's creative scheduling screwing us again.

(NOTE: I'd link directly to the KC Star article, but it's so old you have to be a member of their website.)

"Bye-weeks. Bronco Nagurski didn't get no bye-weeks! And now he's dead! Well, maybe they're a good thing."

I would like a by week in front of a team like Colorado or Kansas State.
I would give us time to focus on their week points.

I do think their was a bye prior to the Arrowhead Deal with K State. Last year's bye went away because of it.

We are playing three or four teams that have byes prior to playing us,
We will have to watch and see how they play against us.
