Bulaga (sp?) out???

I would guess that if this were true that Bulaga would not want this out before getting some more opinions. If this were to be a treatable condition he would not want this information to be public because it could cost him a lot of money next year. In this case I would think that you would not want it public until after you are able to get back on the field to avoid scouts moving you down on their list. If it is not a treatable condition and he can't continue playing football, what does it matter if it's revealed this week or later.

Overall, if this is indeed the non-football condition that is rumored I don't think it would be Iowa that's keeping information secretive. It's the players right not to have his personal medical information out and not the right of someone to post it on twitter.

The NFL teams usually get access to the players medical records before the draft so it's not like he would be able to hide it. And if it is treatable (ie: he will still be allowed to play without fear of it coming back) it wouldn't move him down in the draft any more than a sprained ankle would.
 
If Bulaga is indeed out, who will be the benefactor on the ISU D-line? Is it Lyle that usually lines up on the right side or Parker? If I remember correctly it's usually Parker on the left side.

Ok, I'm with you on that, but once again, I'm going to look at this differently. None of us know anything other than what we're told from the media, and they in turn only as accurate as the information they're given. Go back to yesterday when Ken Miller broke the news on KXNO, and when Matt asked him what was up with Bulaga, Ken said he couldn't say because it would be a HIPPA violation.

However, Ken said he also had 3 sources who all told him the same thing...so wouldn't those sources have been committing a HIPPA violation? If you listened to Ken's voice yesterday, it was pretty obvious that he knew what the deal was but was citing HIPPA as a reason not to spill it.

HIPPA violations are pursued against institutions and not persons. Unless said sources were with the U of I or U of I hospitals there isn't a HIPPA problem.

They actually rotated last week. Parker started at rush end and played most of the game there but there were times Lyle was moved to that position.

Unfortunately, even if it is treatable and doctors say there is no threat of reoccurance, some NFL GM's will shy away from him. It may not drop him a whole round in the draft, but maybe 10 picks or so.

I was just getting ready to post that link.

It's kind of funny that I went from disappointed that Bulaga was going to miss ISU, then after all the rumors of it being serious and career threatening, I'm now relieved that he is only going to be missing one or two games.

Just talked to a sales associate from a office supply company whose husband played the OL in the early 2000's for Iowa so he is in the know according to her. It is a thyroid problem and something that should be treatable with drugs.

Take it for what it's worth... Better then a heart deal that is for sure

Soooooooo more reliable than a dentist?

Agree, though, thyroid issues, while still no picnic, are much better than heart issues.

I just talked with a guy, who's brother is good friends with an Iowa assistant, said that Bulaga is in a hospital right now. Sounded like they indeed did find something with the thyroid, which if you have to chose between a heart ailment and a thyroid, you'd take the thyroid. I'm not sure if they know the extent of it yet or not? Hopefully they caught it early, and it's not career ending.
