Bubu Palo is in the NBA

We go to a lot of Skyforce games and have interacted with Bubu quite a bit the last few years. Most of the time we are in our ISU gear and he has always been really nice to us and our kids - always willing to chat. Really happy to see him rewarded for sticking it out in the G League and putting in the work.

Searching on Google Dematha Catholic HS had four NBA players from their 2009-2010 team.

Dematha can recruit as it is not a public school, and they do recruit. What makes the Ames team unique is that it is a public high school. Not to mention a public high school in a state that doesnt produce much talent in general. If Bubu ends up on the active roster Ames high may be the only public school in the nation that can say they have 3 kids from the same team on active rosters. If that happens it will be just shy of 1% of the active roster NBA will be from that team.

I know they're a private school. That wasn't the question.

Great for him!

I still have fond memories of watching ISU beat Jim Calhoun and UCONN back in 2012 in Louisville, including watching Bubu completely outplay Andre Drummond.

I've thought for a while now that Bubu Palo is the 2nd most talented walk-on to ever play basketball at ISU, only behind the immortal Jeff Hornacek.

Wow, the odds of three guys from the same high school team in the league.
That may be a first?
3 Amigos at Proviso East (1991 IL state champs) had Boyce, Finley, and Ford who all were drafted and played in the NBA. I can think of others, but thats the first one that came to mind. Still impressive what that Ames team has accomplished,

Heat beat writer Ira Winderman writes that Bubu and Flatten (great combo) will be sent to Sioux Falls again. Here are some blurbs from his article:

The Miami Heat have begun the process of finalizing their roster in advance of next Monday's NBA-mandated deadline, waiving guards Jeremiah Martin and Mychal Mulder and then adding guards Skyler Flatten and Bubu Palo.

Each of the moves were made with an eye toward the Heat's G League affiliate, the Sioux Falls Skyforce.

Tuesday’s dual set of moves leaves the Heat with 20 players, the NBA offseason maximum. While teams are limited to 15 players during the regular season, the Heat are expected to carry 14 due to their position against the hard cap.

Martin and Mulder are expected to now be funneled to the Heat's G League affiliate, the Sioux Falls Skyforce, although both, if they clear waivers, would be free to sign with any NBA team.

Similarly, the Heat are expected to do the same with Flatten and Palo, waiving each by Saturday's waiver deadline and then working toward their move to the Skyforce.

Palo, who has played five seasons with the Skyforce, including on the 2016 G League championship team, appeared in 40 games (25 starts) last season with the Skyforce, averaging 13.2 points, 4.5 assists, 4.1 rebounds in 31.4 minutes. On the Skyforce’s all-time lists, he ranks first in free throws made (687), fifth in games played (154), sixth in assists (557), eighth in minutes (4,335) and 10th in points (1,814).

Bubu - 1st in career free throws made for Skyforce. That's a bit like Crash Davis in "Bull Durham".

I’d take a Bubu type on every team.

We never really got to see him as an upperclassman. He could defend quick guards and get into the paint. Not bad for a guard off the bench.

Good grief that 2008-2009 Ames team has to go down as one of the most talented smaller town public schools I have seen.

Harrison Barnes - UNC and 7th overall pick. has a world title.
Doug McDermott - CU, 11th overall NBA pick
Bubu Palo - ISU, G-League and Now NBA
James Kohler - D1 baseball player 6-8 (all sport guy)
Michael Weber - Played Division II Mizzou STL
Riley Stuve - Juco

Wasn't Ben Cotton also on that team? 3 year starter at tight end for Nebraska.

That team was great but what's weird is, ISU didn't really benefit from having this loaded team right in their own backyard. Obviously ISU athletics ended up just fine but the weird variables that were in play that made that happen are interesting.
