Hey guys, I'm a Cyclone alum living in St. Louis and heard something interesting on the radio here today. With the St. Louis University basketball head coaching job open, Bryce Drew's name has been floating about as the potential front runner. Today on one of the sports radio shows, they had Paul Oren (reporter for Valparaiso sports) on talking about Drew and his likelihood of coming to SLU. Anyway, in the contest of this, Oren said that Drew was ISU's first choice last year and was offered the job.

I had never heard this and thought it was interesting. Glad we got Prohm though.

Thanks

I remember him being considered as a potential final candidate, but don't know if that was official.

Glad we didn't go his way though. If I remember right, he's VERY defensively oriented, and I don't know how this team would have performed if he insisted on staying that way.

He was never offered the job but he was heavily considered.

He would never have been offered the job, turned it down, then gone to Saint Louis

That's actually the reason the guy on the radio today gave for him probably not going to SLU. Why would he have turned down ISU only to take the SLU job a year later. Either way, doesn't matter, I just always find it interesting when ISU comes up on the radio down here in STL.

Agree that I remember him being in the running. May have been one of the guys interviewed in Atlanta. I'd say Pollard only offered one guy. You wouldn't want to get down to 3 candidates, offer one of them only to have them turn you down.
I would have thought we'd of heard more about this before now too.

Anyway - Valpo to SLU doesn't seem like a very good move to me. Is SLU really a better job than Valpo?
I know they've had some success in the past 5ish years but I'd think Drew would hold out for a P5 job, not the A10.

He was offered the job and turned it down.

He was not offered the job, but was a candidate being very seriously considered and pulled his name out of the running (its also possible it was a little bit preemptive when he didn't think he was going to get it, but I don't know that for certain).

Idk for sure if he was offered the job but I doubt it. What idiot wouldn't have taken that top ten team with amazing fan base and pay raise? I like Prohm better anyways.

I don't care if Coach K turned us down. I'm tickled with Prohm.

not an idiot at all if he looked at that roster and thought it wouldn't fit his style of play. Ask Keno Davis if jumping at just any job is a good idea. For sure ISU was better off this year going with Prohm and might be better off long term as well.

This is also what I heard

I remember hearing that he turned it down but no clue if it's true or not.

If he turned down ISU and then took the SLU job that would be an indicator of really bad decision making.

Since we are back on last year's coaching search, I had heard several times that Jamie Dixon was interested in the ISU job but that we weren't going to pay that much. Makes some sense now with Dixon on the move (and apparently the Pitt admin isn't sad he is gone).

Makes for fun speculation but I'm glad we got Prohm.

You do realize that Dr. Tom left the year before Keno took over because he had built that team into a contender right? He left because he had set his son up to win big and get bigger job offers. Keno was leaving at the first oppurtunity. He coached 1 year at Drake. Providence was dumb for even offering him the job.
