Breaking: Casey Pachall arrested overnight for DWI

The "other backup QB game" that people seem to be forgetting was KU, also in 2005. We knocked out the starter Jason Swanson and backup Brian Luke came in during the 3rd quarter, and the refs promptly tied the game at 14-14 after KU trailed 14-3.

Both the Chase Daniel and Brian Luke games were in 2005, and we had a decent defense that year: Dobbins, Moser, Jackson, Hicks, Paris, Berryman, Leaders.

I think the NCAA and the Big XII Conference would frown upon a player being allowed to play that has admitted to using cocaine while a member of the TCU football team, failed a drug test recently, and has now been arrested for OWI. The kid was put in a drug and alcohol treatment program as a result of the failed drug test. Now this.... Time for some stepped up action on the part of TCU and anything short of a suspension will draw the wrong kind of attention back to TCU and they don't want to open up that can of worms again.

I don't see he could play this weekend. :twitcy:

You don't start Barnett because TCU is not starting their QB. My guess is Jantz is on a short leash this week, and unless he shows he can run this offense, he wont finish the game.

What I was saying is that we have two very different QBs. Jantz can have that incredible game that can allow a big upset. He also can make very dumb plays that can lose games on his own. I can see playing him if we need a great performance to even give us a chance. Now with Pachell out, we don't need to gamble with Steele. We have a shot to win this game with a short passing and zone read offense that Barnett runs well. Why roll the dice that Steele will turn the ball over when we don't have to.

Has does Pachell being out make TCU's defense worse?

I don't necessarily agree that this DWI means Jantz should or shouldn't play this weekend. BUT last week was a good example of Jantz making our defense worse. The D played solid for 3+ quarters. But they were just dog tired by the end of the game.

Or we'll just have 5 or 6 pick 6's. That'd help things out

So I know that this a much more overarching argument to be had, but does anyone else get frustrated with the lack of accountability within American sports for driving drunk. It seems like the american public is willing to look the other way consistently over this yet it is a major problem. If you or I got caught with a DWI then we would be at risk to losing our jobs. Meanwhile athletes in all sports and in college get caught and we debate whether or not they should sit out a few plays. Sorry to rant but I think that it is a major issue.

So, you are suggesting that we live in a society rife with double standards!?!

I'll just restate what some others have said - if our offense plays like crap again, their QB is a moot point.

If we win, it'll be another asterick. Don't get me wrong, I want the win bad, but it'd mean more if we got them at full strength.

Even a win against a less than full strength TCU can be something to build on. If the D gives our offense a lot of opportunities they might get some kind of rhythm going and gain confidence going forward.

It would be one thing if ISU was competing for say the national championship, or a BCS game, but we're not going to. Getting a win, any way we can get it (outside of cheating) is all I really care about. At the end of the year, no one will remember that ISU got to play against TCU's second string QB. ISU still has to win though, it's not a given. This is a game ISU definitely needs to win if they want to go bowling.
