Breaking: Casey Pachall arrested overnight for DWI

The thing with Brad Smith vs. Chase Daniel is that they were two very different styles of QB. The ISU D had a great gameplan and scheme set up to stifle Smith, and when Daniel came in and spread the ball all over, the ISU D did NOT adjust well at all.

Wally doesn't have a lot of time to adjust, but a few days is a lot better than mid-game.

Right, understood. @Topshelf and I were just talking about this. All about the gameplan.

And, while they may not have the team practice for it, I'm sure that the coaches have how to defend the back up QB in their game plan so they will just have to dust that off and start hammering it into their players. It isn't a complete unknown. I'm sure the bash brothers are already in the film room studying film on this guy - well right after class that is. :embarrassed:

Yeah, it wasn't TCUs offense I was worried about in this game. :-(

Very true. But losing a senior leader with only two practices left before gameday will shake things up. And no matter how bad our offense is doing if they are also going 3 and out then our defense won't be any more tired than theirs.

which means this game is going to come down to field position and turnovers; field position we should win, unless we have turnovers, which will most likely happen.

I see this game as a 7-10 barn burner, in favor of the good guys of course.

I know this has been discussed before, but does this give even more of a reason for Barnett to start? We shouldn't need the incredible game from the QB to win if TCU can't move the ball. Barnett may not have the arm that Jantz has, but he is more consistent and hasn't shown the killer turnovers. Throwing a couple picks can quickly negate the lack of offense from TCU.

So Missouri can dramatically change their play calling mid game to adjust for a quarterback's strengths and weaknesses?

Someone should e-mail JP and suggest our coaches try this, it seems like a good idea.

You don't start Barnett because TCU is not starting their QB. My guess is Jantz is on a short leash this week, and unless he shows he can run this offense, he wont finish the game.

By the time that happens...the hole will be dug too deep to get out.

Best practice quarterback in college football. BTW Bruns thinks Pachall will play.

I think the NCAA and the Big XII Conference would frown upon a player being allowed to play that has admitted to using cocaine while a member of the TCU football team, failed a drug test recently, and has now been arrested for OWI. The kid was put in a drug and alcohol treatment program as a result of the failed drug test. Now this.... Time for some stepped up action on the part of TCU and anything short of a suspension will draw the wrong kind of attention back to TCU and they don't want to open up that can of worms again.

This. I've said all week whoever has the better offense will win the game. This helps ISU's cause, but ISU still needs to figure out how to move the ball and score points.

Agreed. Their offense is still going to be better than ours most nights. A young QB and turnovers could be a great equalizer.

The "other backup QB game" that people seem to be forgetting was KU, also in 2005. We knocked out the starter Jason Swanson and backup Brian Luke came in during the 3rd quarter, who promptly tied the game at 14-14 after KU trailed 14-3.

Both the Chase Daniel and Brian Luke games were in 2005, and we had a decent defense that year: Dobbins, Moser, Jackson, Hicks, Paris, Berryman, Leaders.

Possibly, but I still believe ISU's offense is capable of being much, much better than last week.
