To tailgate this weekend, I have a case of Hamms, a case of Grain Belt in bottles, and bought the close out of micro brewed Miller light flavors. I'm not sure whether I'll like it, or get sick. What off brands are other bringing?

I like Hamms, and I love Grain Belt. I haven't tried the new Miller craft beers. I can't imagine they are great, but I suspect they are decent. Sort of like that new Budweiser "American" Ale.

Any one ever have Regal beer, it is a Hy-Vee brand. I bought a 6 pack once about 10 years ago. Wow, it was the worst stuff ever. I think the 6 pack was like $2 or $3 so I guess it was worth it. We made people drink it if they lost in drinking games.

I used to drink Milwaukee's Best......and I still have no problem drinking it, though I have developed more of a taste for bottled beer lately.

I ain't afraid of The Beast, but I've got a job now: I don't have to drink crappy beer. (I used to play on a "Milwaukee's Best" softball team just in case you are keeping track). Suck it up and act like ISU grads can afford real beer (does the fact it took me ten minutes to type this because I was so drunk affect my credibility?)

The old you get, the more it becomes about the journey instead of the destination...It's also nice to be able to get there on a direct flight too, though :D

You sounds like my wife. I like Busch light and she makes fun of me when I buy it. She always says we can afford a real beer, its not that much more expensive. She doesnt get its not the cost, its what I like to drink. Now better I go get another Bud Lite.

I refuse to drink suds that were once promoted by a pit bull. It has nothing to do with the dog, but all about the fact once A-B used Spuds, their sales increased by 20%.

I'll ding my credibility (since neg rep has been eliminated), and say I drink beer because I like it; not because of some national marketing campaign.

Pour me a good beer and I'll drink it. "Market" me a good beer and I'll ask why you use rice instead of barley. Feel free to pile on....

I don't know if any of these are still available?

Drewreys or
Schmidt - The Beer That Grew with the Great Northwest or
Carling Black Label anyone (this one is available)
An old favorite - Schmidt's of Philadelphia (not the same as the Minnesota brew.)

It actually takes quite a bit of skill to make a beer taste as bad as American macrobrews...
I shouldn't say as bad, but just with so little flavor.

It's comparatively easy to brew beer that actually tastes really good, it just costs a lot more money :)

I plan on going to Hyvee and buying some off-the-wall beer made out in Montana or Wyoming...I need to be alert during the day Saturday.

Speaking of Bud's "American" Ale...I went looking for it in stores in CR last weekend (bored) and couldn't find it. I do know they serve it at some bars in town though. Has anyone tried it? What do you think? I asked a friend about it and this response was "why do you need an ale from Bud when there are so many great ales out there". Still...I want to try it.

Hey, I love good beers and I can tell you there is NOTHING wrong with Grain Belt at all.

I've tried it on tap, but not in the bottle.

It was served WAY too cold, and WAY too carbonated, but after it warmed up and the CO2 went away, it's a very alright amber ale. If I closed my eyes, that first sip tasted just about like Bud heavy with a hint more hops.
Nothing exciting, really, but if it's between that and Bud or Bud light, I'd take it. You won't mistake it for a really good beer, but it's certainly tolerable.

I'd say the Beer Advocate rating is about right.

I'm hoping the bottle fixes some of the issues I had with it on tap.
