Has anyone ever went up to them? I've seen drag racing on TV a little bit and think it would be quite the spectacle in person. I would think one day would satisfy my yen to see it.

Any tips at where you want to get seats at. I'm just assuming earplugs are highly recommended. I think it will be a good event to see. Throw me out all the advice you got CF.

If you want a small taste, find out when Humboldt does theirs and swing up there. Far from nationals, but might give you a feel for it since it's not far from you.

I think there is still one at Earlville too.

Yes and Eddyville too. But this Brainard one will draw the big drag racing names that the other locations mentioned in this thread won't.

Imo the coolest thing about drag racing is watching them teardown and rebuild engines in the pits between runs. Blows my mind.

I’ve been going to BIR for over a decade. I am a so called “zoo person” which is the ultimate experience. This could get long so feel free to pm me. I’ve been to other tracks as well so if you have never experienced a nitro burning dragster or funny car, it’s no so much the sounds of 11,000 hp per car, it violent and rattles your body. Something you have to experience to understand. I actually live in Humboldt and we have a great track but it’s nothing compared to the pros.

There is general admission seating, reserved seating, zoo side there is general which you can bring a cooler and an area to watch from a 4 wheeler around the 1000 ft mark.

Go and camp, first come first serve so I’m usually there Wednesday or Thursday AM. We make it an event so smoking food, playing bags, just driving around the zoo is a blast.

Every ticket is a pit pass so watch them tear the engine and clutch apart after every run. Then start the car and set the clutch just feet from where you are standing. Meet any driver from Leah Pruett, Ron Capps, to John Force. It’s not hard to meet any driver, get a pic, and an autograph. Many of the drivers will enter the zoo as well in the evening which is really cool on their part.

I've never been to Brainerd but I have been to NHRA events in the past. It's truly indescribable, you have to go.

Ear plugs - yes and yes. I wear the in-ear and over-ear muffs. I have seen plenty of people there without hearing protection, they are insane. The noise is so powerful I wouldn't even describe it as loud, it's more all encompassing. You don't hear it, you feel it. You literally feel the air pressure change when they hit the throttle.

When the nitro cars run it's like nothing else you've ever seen before. As far as seats, the closer to the starting line the better. They're also more expensive. You can always wander down to the end and watch the cars cross the line.

Whether someone is a car person or not, seeing top fuel and funny cars run is something everyone should do once. There aren't many chances to see that much power packed into that small of a package.
