Brackins now a second round pick?

There it is...blame the coaching staff for his abilities. Maybe you should be a coach.

I'm not blaming the coaching staff for his abilities, I'm blaming them for not teaching him as well as the rest of the team basic fundamentals and correcting the same mistakes the team made over and over. Brackins had virtually 0 inside presence, that falls on coaching when the guy is supposed to be a big man when he played like a shooting small forward. We have all seen what he can do on the offensive side here and there, but never consistent because the staff never did anything to correct mistakes or teach the thing he lacked.

here's the worst comment of the entire thread.

Most people, including most McD haters will agree that Mac CAN coach posts. It's the guard play which has lacked the last few years.

Oh yeah since he has been here ISU has had good post players :skeptical:

Neither player has the inside game for NBA. Brackens will need time in the d-league to get up to speed. He will be drafted but doubtful if he sticks. Will need to revamp his 10ft fall away for an attacking put back.

Did you look at what I said...I said he can coach post players. He took Jiri, 'a soft all I want to do is shoot 3's type of player' and taught him a nice inside game.

and CB has said it himself that he has developed as a post, because before all he wanted to do was play on the outside...and he's become a pretty good rebounder as well. pretty sure the coaches have something to do with that.

I never understood how people say Craig will be somewhat of a shooter in the NBA. He's really never been that great of a consistent shooter.

He really lacks the ability to put the ball on the floor and take it to the rim, making is own plays. I do find that a bit concerning about his NBA draft status.

BUT he is really athletic, still fairly young, and has a lot of potential.

Jiri did get better. CB has no post moves and he is an average at best rebounder. He doesn't go after boards, he waits for the ball to come to him. You can't say he is a good post coach when in all most every game, ISU is badly getting out rebounded. Just because Jiri got better does not make him a good post coach. Hamilton played at the end of this past season exactly how he did at the end of his freshman year. He played like **** until a few games into the Big 12 season, so Hamilton really never improved.

From Tuesday Morning Quarterback in Oct 2008:

Last week Indianapolis canceled a trade with Buffalo for underwhelming 2006 first-round defensive tackle John McCargo, who seems on his way for admission to the Bust Hall of Fame as a first-round selection who never started so much as one game. In the 2006 first round, three defensive linemen from North Carolina State were chosen: Mario Williams, first overall to Houston; Manny Lawson to San Francisco; and McCargo to Buffalo. As the third of the three was picked, Michael Irvin asked how so many guys could go in the first round from a team that was only 7-5, saying, "Look at their record, look at their record, how can they have three first-round picks?" Look at their record is the kind of thing a player says, and here the player's instincts were better than the instincts of scouts. Williams of course has become a star, Lawson has been hampered by injuries but had a big blocked kick against Jersey/A on Sunday, and at this point it looks like McCargo's best-case outcome is that some team gives him cab fare to the airport.

We just went 14-17. Does a college basketball team go 14-17 with two legitimate NBA caliber players on the roster?

Gruber, Schneiderman, Stout, Coleman, heck even Eglseder and Koch (who I think he recruited), Jiri, Brackins, Hamilton.
Whether it be good recruiting or good coaching, I am not worried about McD and posts. He may not be Pete Newell or get some players to play perfectly (Brackins), but he has a good record. Now guard play....

Great Post.

And Xbox...We out rebounded the majority of our opponents this season, Including Conference games. Again, one of the few things that we didn't have problems with.

Brackins needs a much better inside game. He's going to get pushed around by bigger guys and that fade away 10 footer isn't going to cut it. He really needs to develop some moves to get closer shots.

I'd really be surprised if Gilstrap is drafted with his health questions. And he hasn't had enough playing time to show he has the skills for the next level.

The more I read on some of these post the more I feel I am back in 7th grade talking to a bunch of kids who think they can play basketball, until you coach or play D-1 basketball, please tell me reilly - WHAT would you do? This is not high school ball, I don't care how bad you are!

Has Brackins signed an agent yet? This is a very slim chance but he'd almost be better off not signing one and leaving coming back to school an option. At this point it can't hurt him anymore than it already has, his peak value was not coming back this past season and now I can't see how coming back for 1 more year and putting up some monster numbers wouldn't get him back in the 1st round.

I realize I have a better chance at winning the Powerball than this happening probably but I wonder if he's even left it a very small possibility of doing if he doesn't like what he is hearing when he goes through his draft workouts.

NBAdraft.net now has Brackins the 37th pick of the draft. It has Gilstrap 47th.

Gilstrap in my opinion will not be playing on an NBA team next year... D league or a lot of money in Europe. Grossly over rated talent we had... Good players, but not two 1st rounders as most claimed on the raido air waves all season long...

My take - Brackins game isn't all that dissimilar from Fizer, except Fizer was a lot better. And we all know the issues he had in trying to adjust his game to the NBA. Even if Brackins is drafted, it'll be a struggle.

Fizer blowing out his knee made Fizer struggle in the NBA. Plus the gun thing didn't help buy him time to recover. Prior to the knee injury Fizer was a 6th man candidate and ready to jump in the starting 5 permanently for the Bulls. Not necessarily struggling.

Fizer liked to play physical around the basket and could still find ways to score being double teamed, Brackins game more fade away and taking jump shots away from the basket. How are they similar again???

They're both african-american. They both play basketball.

Yeah, no we didn't. In non-conference we outrebounded our opponent 8 of 15 games and in B12(including the 1 B12 tourney game) we outrebounded our opponent in 8 of 17 games. Overall 16 of 32 games.
