NBAdraft.net now has Brackins the 37th pick of the draft. It has Gilstrap 47th.

They will be both making money next year. I wish the best of luck to both of them. Craig will hit the NBA at some point. Gilstrap could make a LOT of money in Europe if he never gets it here

NBAdraft.net has had him in the 2nd round for a while now. It's bad because they were always the source that had him going the highest. At one point last year they had him at 8 or 9. Sucks for him.

For Gilstrap, I'd say 47th is looking pretty good to him considering his situation.

Last year at this time Brackins was pretty much a lock to go in the top 20. I feel sorry for him because coming back for another year probably end up costing him a few million dollars.

I know. But I dont think he got worse. He should be able to prove that in workouts.

The KU game last year might have overly inflated his status

You're right, he didn't get worse. He was probably just a little overrated, likely because of the KU game like you mentioned.

His stats may have been down 10 per cent but that was mostly because he had help from Gilstrap. If both are drafted, that will reflect once again how this season was a biog miss. Remember CB did better this year in assists and steals and blocks. He had no help in 08-09 thanks to Wesley disappearing.

a 14-17 team with 2 guys being drafted. where did the season go?

CB didn't get worse, his stats were down with the help of other players...Quez and Lucca for awhile. He was projected so high last year because last years draft was so much weaker than this years. There are so many great players in this years draft.

Brackins was predicted to go high last year because the draft was "weak" and he was extremely overrated because of 1 game. From what I have seen of Brackins, he is a second round pick at best, only because of his potential. His talent IMO, is just barely tapped because of bad coaching that didn't know how to use him correctly.

maybe he didn't get worse because talent doesn't really go bad, but he did not perform nearly as well as he did his sophomore year. his per40 stats are way down, not 10% more like 25% and his 2P fg% shooting was also way down 51% vs 45%.

worse yet, he got exposed this year. a list of his flaws:

1) not a shot blocking presence
2) not quick enough to guard many perimeter forwards
3) when out-strengthed, relies on off balance fadeaways too often
4) a serviceable rebounder but definitely not great

and worse yet, this is against college competition (Jordan Egleseder, and both Koch brothers of UNI made him look bad not to mention almost every big XII team).

flaw 3 i do not get. he was really dominant his soph year and was very clever at manufacturing quality short-midrange jumpers. he looked in balance, his release looked good, and it was virtually unstoppable. also, he had such good variety in his post ups. his post up game pretty much disappeared this year. junior year i guess he was trying too hard. the other part about flaw 3 i do not get is why when he faces up he shoots fadeaways. he's 6'10"; against most opponents he should just be able to get it off without being unnecessarily off-balance.

There it is...blame the coaching staff for his abilities. Maybe you should be a coach.

here's the worst comment of the entire thread.

Most people, including most McD haters will agree that Mac CAN coach posts. It's the guard play which has lacked the last few years.

I do blame the coaching staff for Brackins not having a better year to a certain extent. They let him have too much freedom with his shot selection. Greg should have NEVER let him get away with it all year like he did. Craig's shot selection was embarrassing the majority of the year.

yeah me too. He is gonna be a millionare. My heart goes out to him and his family cause he may lose a few million dollars because of his decision

Both Brackins and Gilstrap will be in Europe next year. They are both combo forwards and don't have a natural position in the NBA. They can hit an open shot, but both are streaky. They don't have a good handle and will struggle putting the ball on the floor facing the basket in the NBA. Neither one is a solid defensively against good players.

Brackins lacks the strength to establish himself in the post and to get tough rebounds, and is not much of an offensive rebounder. Brackins is not overly athletic, and not physical/strong enough to offset this.

Gilstrap has more upside than Brackins, but isn't very polished offensively. His offensive game is basic hitting 3's, or driving to the basket to his right. He doesn't have a polished inbetween game or goto moves. He has some quickness and is naturally strong for his position.

Both would have benefitted if ISU had better guard play and a better combo guard to compliment Garrett

Just my thoughts.

They are both good, solid players and will make some nice $ in Europe if they do it right.
