Bracket Discussion

The matrix has us as the first 5. They have VCU as the last 12. Of the other 12 seeds, that's the one I would want.
Not me. They won a tougher conference and regularly beat better teams than those other teams.

Seriously, why is anyone scared of Drake?

We have no idea how many Drake would have if the entire system wasn't built against them getting the opportunities.

That's a team that's older than 5 NBA teams that's won a lot of games with a dominant point guard and a go to scorer. That's the exact type of Valley, A10, MW team that wins a game or two in the tournament.
Sure. But every year there are lower seeds from P6 conferences that do the exact same thing.

I wouldn't say I'm "scared" of them, but they did beat a Top 15 (at the time) SEC team (Mississippi State) on a neutral court; they have a high-major talent player in DeVries, and they absolutely destroyed a good Bradley team by 26 that they had lost to by double digits previously just a week earlier in the regular season finale. Plus, they're a veteran team with a lot of older players (just like us), not to mention if it comes down to a matchup they'll have the extra motivation of taking down the in-state "big brother" (a term I normally hate using in sports due to the inherent condescension involved).

There's a pretty decent chance our opponent could be them, Oral Roberts, or Charleston. All three would be tough games, but I'd take the latter two based on the reasons above.

It’s the NCAA tourney. All the 12 seeds will be tough. They can bring it on.

Oklahoma was a 13 seed in 1999 and made the Sweet 16.
We were a 13 in 1985 and a 12 in 88. I think 12+ seed at-larges used to be more common, but tourney expansion, conference consolidation, and selection criteria changes have all worked against it happening more often.

The basics, from tournament selection process:

At no point is a member present for conversation about or vote on a ballot including a team the individual represents as an athletics director or commissioner. Also, a committee member may not vote and shall not be present during any discussion regarding the selection or seeding of a team in which an immediate family member is a student-athlete on the team, is a member of the coaching staff, or is a senior athletics administrator of the institution. An athletics director or commissioner is permitted to answer general factual questions-- e.g., injury dates, player availability -- about teams in the conference the individual represents.

--> (my note) I guess people don't have to believe that it's followed, but if that's the case the entire process is a house of cards.
JP does get to weigh in on Drake.

The consensus is, last year's team made sweet 16, an this year's team has a chance to do so. So who gives a **** who we play in round of 64
