Bowl Situation Thread

If the Big 12 gets two BCS teams, I think we are a Holiday lock.

If not, it will get iffy.

I don't think the Big 12 will get two teams which is total crap because this conference is THE BEST CONFERENCE BY FAR.

I just realized that I will be on a plane tomorrow when the bowls get announced. ****.

Don't lose too much heart. I say Baylor whomping Texas is good, because maybe they'll jump Michigan in the BCS rankings. A Wisconsin win might keep MSU ahead of them, too. Michigan has to move up two spots to steal a BCS bowl, three if Baylor moves up. I don't think that's a sure thing.

There's still a couple of at-large spots in play, with the SEC taking one of the four and Stanford another. Can TCU move up 2 spots to take a third? Probably, so only one is left. If Michigan can't get in the top 14, I think the Big 12 gets it.

I'll take Kraft Hunger over Pinstripe. ISU would be a perfect tie in to Kraft Hunger with Iowa being an agriculture state,a stereotype if I ever saw one.

In 2000, we played in the Insight.com bowl in Phoenix - it was in the Diamondbacks baseball field and it was freaking SWEET! So, you are wrong that baseball fields can't be fun. But, I want the Holiday Bowl... BAD!

Holiday Bowl would have been so sweet. I have no research to back this up, but a 7-5 record would have helped us so much more. Oh well.

Honestly, losing to Kstate may have actually helped our bowl chances. If OkState wins tonight, i could definitely see Kansas State being selected as the 2nd Big 12 bcs team. If we had beaten them the big 12 would probably be stuck with 1 bcs team.

we are going to the holiday bowl..

In the best-case scenario (two Big 12 teams to the BCS), in order for that to happen, essentially the Holiday bowl would have to pass over MU and TAMU and take ISU. I could see them passing over MU, but given the much larger fanbase of TAMU, why would they pass over TAMU for ISU?

If only one Big 12 team goes to the BCS, the Holiday Bowl would have to pass over three teams, the third one likely being UT or BU. They are not going to pass over UT for ISU. With RGIII, and BU having a significantly better record than ISU, that's not going to happen either.

It's not only fans who will buy tickets and travel to the game, it's also potential TV audience. The more TV audience, the better TV and advertising deal the bowl gets.

ISU to the Holiday bowl just doesn't seem to be a very realistic scenario.

I think the fact that aTm vastly underperformed has a lot to do with it. At the beginning of the year their fans were expecting a run at the national championship... now they are 6-6. I doubt aTm fans are as excited about a lower tier bowl game as we are.

If they pass over us and take TAMU, then that opens up a spot for us in the bowl in houston, does it not? Still a bowl i wouldnt mind going to.

And even if TAMU has a larger fanbase, will they show up to the holiday bowl? Our fanbase is excited about a bowl, theirs doesnt care and they just fired their coach. I get the feeling a lot of their fans wouldnt be opposed to skipping a bowl this year.

The only way that the Holiday Bowl works is if there are 2 BCS teams, but then I think we are much more attractive then the coachless, ******* Aggies and the idiot Tigers. The Texas Bowl would beg for A&M and the Holiday Bowl would take us.

Without a coach, I don't see Tammy traveling well at all. I think they will end up in Houston.

Again, there's more to it than just what team's fans travels better. There are also the considerations of what team will attract a bigger TV audience, and what team will attract more locals to the game.

I truly think that as long as we don't go to the Pinstripe everyone will be happy, meaning we'll end up playing in either California (Holiday or Kraft Hunger) or Texas. The only other situation I'm really interested in is that the Big 12 gets two BCS bowl bids that it deserves...

I think you're spot on. I don't see much excitement around the Pinstripe bowl.
