Bowl Situation Thread

So I have rooms reserved in Dallas, SF, SD, and DC. Is there anywhere that I'm missing??? Besides NYC

If Baylor beats Texas that would put Michigan at 15 again...but does a 3 loss OU team stay ahead of Michigan??? Does a 1 loss Houston stay ahead of Michigan? If ISU beats K-State, does KSU stay ahead of Michigan?

Not that I know anything ... cause I don't ... but should Houston lose the C-USA title game, they probably don't get a BCS bowl spot. According to my son, who has been paying much more attention than me, a non-AQ conference champion finishing in the top 16 (I think) would get an automatic BCS bid. If Houston loses ... doesn't matter where they finish in the standings, they won't be the conference champ.

So, that would appear to open up another BCS at-large spot. Perhaps the Big 10 and Big 12 could both get two, if Houston loses?

I admit the rules are complicated as all get out, but I don't see a 1-loss Houston team getting invited to a BCS bowl.

The reason I asked wasn't to determine Houston's fate, but to see if Michigan could jump from 15 to 14 or not to take a BCS at large spot.

To your point though, a 1 loss Houston will not get a BCS bowl because they aren't conference champs. But TCU could make it to the top 16 in this senario and take Houston's place. Or they could end up at 17 and leave another BCS spot open...Nobody knows.

For selfish reasons only I'm hoping for one of the Texas bowl games. Easiest for travel and money wise. Plus those might be only times I can get off work

A bowl in Texas is huge for recruiting and easier travel and maybe weather. There have been several times where they've had bad weather i.e. the Notre Dame-Houston Cotton Bowl and last year's Super bowl.

That must be nice for the Big 10 to have a yearly match up vs a CUSA team. Talk about tough bowl games.

Most recent BCS standings here.

As far as Big 12's shot at two in the BCS, doesn't look too good.

Michigan pulls in at #16 and is all but assured of moving up one spot based on the loser of Wisconsin vs. Michigan State falling below them. LSU vs. UGA will also screw the Big 12. Georgia losing would fall behind Michigan as well. LSU losing would probably get three SEC teams in the BCS and have the same effect on the Big 12.

Oklahoma State over OU could also push the Sooners below Michigan.

Baylor winning big over Texas & Clemson winning over Va Tech could help to hop over Michigan but it's not assured. A Clemson win would likely make Va Tech eligible for an at-large selection and could have the same effect. Assuming no big upsets, it's looking like UM is probably in.

Best case scenario for two Big 12 BCS teams: Baylor dominates Texas, Oklahoma beats Okie State, LSU beats Georgia. Michigan might just end up at #15 in that scenario and the Big 12 might just get OSU or KSU into the BCS along with conference champ OU.

Doesn't the scenario where Georgia would beat LSU (I know very unlikely) and the SEC can have 3 have potential to keep Michigan out??

LSU vs Bama NCG

B10 Champ (Assume Wisconsin)
Stanford
Oregon
Houston
ACC Champ (Assume Va. Tech)
OSU
Big East Champ (Assume WVU)
Georgia

That is 8 right there with no Michigan.

So Michigan is #16. They'll pass Georgia, but that's it. Plus Baylor can pass them. I don't think their gonna make it.

You are forgetting about Wiscy-MSU loser. That's at least two spots to move up basically guaranteed. We need Baylor to win big.

The point isn't just to keep Michigan out, it's to keep Michigan out so that there is room for a 2nd Big 12 team.
