Bowl or Bust

Lol what a high bar you've set. You are the kind of guy with a whole drawer filled with 6th place ribbons from your third grade track and field day aren't you...

So tell me what section your Iowa State Football season tickets were in?

I have to admit, I'm pretty intrigued about Demond Tucker. Of course, I'll believe it when I see it though because coaches have talked up numerous guys over the years, only to find out in the first game that they aren't very good.

But Demond really has the potential IMO. And I still believe, as does Rhoads, that Trent Taylor has the most potential of anyone on our defense. He's the most talented guy we have, if he can learn how to use it, and use it on every play.

With that being said, this defense still scares me to death. LB's are very questionable, and our secondary is as well IMO. I still don't get all the hype with Tribune? He's ok I guess, but still like most of our d-backs in that he doesn't ever hardly play the ball, and therefore doesn't make a play on the ball.

And I really don't blame our players as much for their pass coverage abilities as much as I do the coaching. I'm so sick of our guys NEVER turning around to see the ball and knock it down or intercept it. If I'm the offensive coordinator going against ISU, I just throw it deep a majority of the time because I know that we can't defend it.

This is usually because we're three steps behind their receiver and trying to catch up. But yes, I've never seen a team so consistently never look back for the ball. Also don't understand the Tribune hype. He makes some great plays, sure. He also routinely gets burned for touchdowns and long pass plays. That said, I'm less worried about our DBs than our LBs. If Kane Seeley is starting, we are in big trouble. It's not his fault, but he is the type of kid that should be making big hits on ST a la Peters. We need Harris to be a beast and Knott to take it up a notch. Maybe get a breakout year from Northup. Probably asking too much. Expecting absolutely nothing this season and hoping for the best.

Pretty much my feelings as well.

I don't remember Kane Seeley playing pretty well towards the end of the year like one poster said on here. I'm with you, if he's our starting MLB, we're in trouble. Nothing against the kid, all you can do is your best and I'm sure he's giving his best, but it's just not starting Big 12 MLB material IMO.

And yes, Tribune has made a few plays here and there, but also seems to get burned just as much as anyone out there as well. Cotton-Moya is a great safety against the run, but so-so in pass defense IMO.

Our pass defense will probably be only as good as the amount of heat our DL can put on opposing QB's. If they have time to throw, we'll be in deep trouble once again this year IMO.

Offensively, everything will depend on the OL and Sam Richardson. I'm not worried about the WR's or RB's at all really. They will be fine if the OL can run block and pass protect, and if Sam can stand in there and throw darts. But if the pass protection isn't great, and Sam gets quick feet, as usual, then it will be another VERY long season.

We can't be successful if Sam runs for more yardage than our RB's again, and if he runs more than he passes also. We need Sam to be a pocket passer 90% of the time that he drops back. Last year he probably scrambled as many times or more than he actually passed it on passing downs.

These were Seeley's stats from last year.

Tackle totals are almost a pointless stat when discussing our defense. They were on the field 70% of the game at the end of last year.

Seeley made a lot of stops and improved.

Much better than the guys on the field 70% of the time who didn't make tackles.

Iowa State has gone 7-6 in the past 2 seasons following a 2-10 season so you can basically bank on a bowl win this year :jimlad:

You have to think Paul is gone if he doesn't make a bowl game, right? Hard to believe one more losing season would mean that the program has had one winning season in the last decade.
Thread reminds me of the first day after you are drafted in the army. Asked all kinds of questions about what you wish to do and where you wish to be stationed? It's called a wish list. Matters none. Everyone is going to be 11B and shipped off to Nam.

So spend your time on the Hawkeye Message Boards and drive that point home. Over and over and over and over.

So the question is WHY are you constantly on Iowa State's board calling for CPR to be fired when you admittedly are not a Cyclone fan and would rather have Iowa State be terrible and beaten by Iowa constantly?

Have you been on any Iowa message boards lately? That point is driven home over and over and over and over.

Then those Hawkeyes should stay over there instead of coming here with their negative talk about the Cyclones. It is not needed or wanted.

I'd actually agree with that. (Wooo, based on our last week). Constructive criticism is always nice though, as long as its done with intentions that aren't just internet trolling.

The criticism here is not constructive for the most part. Making dire predictions of a dismal season is not helpful. Old saying goes that if you don't have something good to say then don't say it.

My definition of constructive dialogue would be a combination of history and future aspirations put together. Seems like one side is all about the past (and how bad ISU was in the 90s) while one is only about firing Rhoads because he has no future. Personally, I want to see the 102-year conference championship drought come to end. A goal like that isn't done over night, and requires a very long-term vision. How (despite our past) can ISU make a goal to reach that in 5 years, 10 years, 15 years, 20 years, etc.? I'll give Jamie credit for his initial vision when he got here, but I'm curious how he feels Paul Rhoads fits into this vision, or if he has any aspirations of doing better than 8-4 in a good season as a long-term goal.

Your opinion.....NOT a fact.

What are YOU doing to help Iowa State to reach the aspirations of doing better than 8-4 in a good season?

Yes, because we all know relentless optimism in the face of overwhelming evidence to the contrary always works.
