Bowl or Bust

This team is not going to a bowl game. End of story! People act like if we wouldn't have had some injuries we would have been good last year. This team is not even close to being decent. My god we made Kansas look like the '85 Bears. The new coach can't get here soon enough!

Again, I hope Rhoads wins this year and puts this to bed for another year. But if he does not and the defense is a bad as it has been, how in the world do you justify keeping your defensive minded head coach? Our defense was LAST in the nation last year. Dead last. From a guy whose specialty is defense.

Being content with Paul Rhoads doesn't stir up support for more projects to reach "top-notch" status either. Justifying additional facilities to lure a better coach than Paul could work though.

The South End Zone Expansion taking place right now blows your logic completely out of the water.

IMO, Paul is a pretty good coach. Last 2 years were not good. But the first 4 years were pretty good. Where will you stand on Paul Rhoads if we win 6 games and go to a Bowl, would you still fire him?

Dead last in yards per game. We were bad on scoring defense, but not dead last.....we ranked #115 out of 125.

Just wondering, but do we rank our offense by points scored per game......or should we rank our offense by yards gained per game?

IMO, both should by points.......because the yardage gained or allowed is not what really counts. It is the points that go on the scoreboard.

In either case, the offense was bad, 89th in yards gained and 96th in points scored...and the defense was worse ranking 125th in yards allowed and 115th in points allowed.

In terms of bust, has JP ever fired anyone?

McDermont left for Creighton
Sanderson to PenST

Maybe my memory just isn't working tonight. Was DannyMac the closest he came to firing someone? (thinking Mac left on his own, but the writing was on the all if he didn't)

Cmon...Mac was fired. When you ask someone if they want to resign or be fired they are getting fired.

I think at 4 wins his odds of staying are 60/40 and at 5 wins is 80/20.

Now say the team starts 4-0 and then we lose 8 straight to close out the year (very well could happen). Even in this scenario with 4 wins being an improvement, he should be fired.

I really like Paul and i think him being a local passionate guy is what ISU needs, so i want him and the team to do well this year.

When you have to argue your defense is #115 and not #125, that should say all we need to know about this coach and his staff...

As long as Jamie Pollard is our AD, Paul Rhoads' job is safe regardless of on-field results.

The only thing that could get him fired by Pollard is something off-field. Keep in mind that Pollard has never fired a coach he hired. He's done a tremendous amount of good in terms of whipping ISU into shape financially and improving our facilities, but he demands literally zero performance accountability for coaches he's hired. We saw it with McDermott, and we're seeing it with Rhoads. The likelihood that another school provides us a golden parachute to end this coaching tenure is unlikely. Paul Rhoads is our football coach as long as Jamie Pollard is here, mark it down, accept it, and move on. Maybe he can get back to where he was. I'd like to see that happen, but at this point there is nothing that makes me believe it will happen.

You really have no better idea whether we will make a bowl game this year than anyone else. It all comes down to how the newcomers perform and what kind of breaks we get on the field. IMO, we are definitely good enough to win from 4 to 6 games. With some breaks (the right ones), maybe better. We will see.

You really have to play the games. Who thought UAB would beat ISU in the Tourney?

Ugh that's a sad fact. I'm gonna go stick my head in the oven.

Wonder what the response would be if Rhoads wins 8 games this next year plus gets a Bowl win on top of that. And then gets offered a great job, which he takes and says good-bye to Iowa State. And the entire staff leaves for greener pastures. Would you react with joy?

That would be an incredibly great problem to have.

Eight wins, man, that would be great.
