Bowl Game Attendance

Here is an obvious answer. Don't give fans who actually buy tickets to see the game from the schools (that they "have" to buy) the worst seats in the house.

No, that's a ******** answer. I had the $80 through ISU; ended up between the 40 and 45 yard line. It was the perfect section and had great views. I could not have asked for a better location. Next time look at the seating chart before picking your dollar level. It's not that difficult at all.

Ding Ding Ding we have a winner!!!!!!

Bowl trips are expensive if you make it that way, they can also be made affordable.
Drive instead of fly.
Get cheap tickets off stubhub.
Only stay 2 nights at cheaper hotel.
Don’t drop $100/night on food and alcohol.

I thought we were talking about enjoying a trip?

I kid, I kid.. kind of.

Our group of 4 guys got tickets/hotel/rental car/gas for ~$320/person. Pretty reasonable, and we had great seats. I probably did spend $100/day on food/alcohol (maybe slightly more, shh). So about a total of $550 for me. That's definitely worth it for me to do every year, but there are some non-monetary things that make if work for me some years & not others:

- Can't always take time off work for a trip like that. Just happened to work out this year.
- I like driving and I'm good with long car rides, not everybody agrees. (see - my kids)
- Taking my 2 year old & 9 year old halfway across the country to watch a football game isn't exactly my idea of a good time. My wife has stayed home with them these last couple years, but if she didn't, we have no family anywhere near town that could watch them for multiple days.

Define expensive.

We probably did it for approx. $1200 excluding my daughters flight from LA to SA (because she would have still flown from LA to DM if there was no bowl).

Fuel- $250ish
Tickets - $270 (3tickets)
Hotel - $500 (5 nights)
Food - $200ish
Well, we did the package deals which includes charter flight, hotel and tickets. Around 3 grand. I agree with you that it could be done cheaper as you noted. We've just enjoyed the convenience that the package gives and the comraderie of traveling with a group of fans.

Ford Explorer - filled up 3 times each way at approx. $30 - $40 a fill up.

Wasn't looking for the full run down, was just poking you a bit there. We have five and usually I figure 15-20 bucks a person per day. We were at the Marriott Plaza and no free breakfast with Marriotts. Why I don't stay there very often. I like Hilton properties better, but we booked late and nothing reasonable was available with them.
It depends which Marriott property. Fairfield Inn, Town Place Suites and Residence Inn all have breakfast included.

I was talking straight marriott. Haven't been to one that has provided. Have stayed at R.I. before and they do and thought it was a nice chain. It operates more like the standard Hilton properties.

Yea, the regular Marriott usually costs more and you get less. Some even expect you to pay for decent WiFi.

I'm not sure of "official" attendance figures for this year's bowls, but at least a few games I watched, the stadium looked more than half-empty. Sun Bowl is one that comes to mind, a one-point game and I saw the shot of the "crowd" in the final few minutes.

NewsDay does a bowl attendance summary, but I get a "trial subscription" paywall, so I can't view this season's updated version.

Pure attendance isn't the question, since bigger bowls with more seating are going to have better numbers. Percentage of seats occupied makes me curious..
