Has anyone done a bourbon trail trip in Kentucky?

Some friends are planning a guys trip in October. Making a long weekend of it. Looking for any do's and don'ts.

TIA.

Hhhmmmm.....sounds interesting. Is this like a set up thing or you just make your way from distiller to distiller on your own?

One of the guys is putting together an itinerary. I think visiting distillers and hopefully some side missions.

I'd love to go but never have. I know that the bigger distilleries are booked out months in advance. I've gotten into bourbon collecting over the last year and I've really enjoyed searching out new ones.

Loved the bourbon trail, it’s kinda like going wine tasting out west where you pick and choose where you want to stop since there are so many distilleries. I highly reccomend stoping at makers mark as they let you dip your own bottle which is a very cool bar piece/souvenir.

Also get a driver.

I was told we could rent motorcycles. I suggested getting a driver instead.

My girlfriend and her cousins did that a few years ago. Best trip they ever went on

The actual Bourbon, I've never done the trail
The tour at Buffalo Trace is just so-so. Historically, it's a neat place, but don't expect to sample any of the high end bourbons they produce. Both Maker's Mark and Woodford tours and contact ahead of time to see what tours are offered and how much they are. I also enjoyed Four Roses and Kentucky Artisan (Jefferson Reserve) tours and a little place in Lexington called Blue Grass Distillery. They are opening a much larger venue soon.

Did a bus tour for a bachelor party. It was phenomenal. ABSOLUTELY DO NOT DRIVE IT ON YOUR OWN IF PLANNING MULTIPLE IN ONE DAY. The tour's includes samples. The one we did picked us up in downtown Louisville, drove us all around, included lunch at a restaurant, and the tours themselves, dropped us back off downtown. IMO this is the way to do it if going with a group so you can all enjoy it more.

Ours included tours at Makers Mark and Jim Beam both were really good. We also stopped and had a tasting at Barton (coincidentally a week or so after their warehouse collapse) and stopped at the Four Roses gift shop.

Everyone loved it except one guy who gets very motion sick and lost it on the winding/hilly country roads.

I'm not a makers mark fan.
