Boosters/L Johnson behind Rhoads

Iowa State cornerback Leonard Johnson said the hiring brings relief.

Johnson, who will be a sophomore, talked to his new coach early this morning.

“I just got a call from him. It made me feel good,” Johnson said. “I was just happy to have somebody in charge.”

Johnson said last week he would consider transferring, but when asked if he felt better about his future as a Cyclone, Johnson said, “You could say that.”

Im behind him too. He may not be flashy but I think he will do a bang up job.

If the football team does not win 7 games in the fall, then JP is history... Jaime is not afraid to take a risk.

Im going to follow suit and quote your idiotic message as well. Im sure thats exactly what Pollard told him after he offered the 5 YEAR CONTRACT. It's very logical to expect a new coach to take over and go from 2-10 to 7 plus wins in a season. Do you even watch football? But seriously, way to be a negative Nancy about our new coach.

If the boosters are behind this hire, which is what the article says and the thread title implies, then no, JP won't be fired if Coach Rhoads doesn't win 7 games this year. Think before you melt down....

We'll certainly have a pipeline to Ankeny. I watched Paul play in high school and he is a good guy from a great family that's lived in Ankeny forever. Nobody will be pulling for him harder than I will, but I was surprised by the hire and do think given the fact that he's had no head coaching experience and mediocre success as an assistant makes him a longshot to succeed. I have to wonder if he's got many recruiting connections in Big 12 country, especially Texas. I'm not sure why JP gave him such a big contract given his resume and the fact he was likely out of a job (I hope we still have plenty left to pay top notch coordinators). But maybe we'll just luck out on this one and Paul will turn out to be a good head coach, he's a good guy that wants to be a Cyclone and deserves our full support.

that is, if Rhoads smacks around the current Ankeny coach that currently pipes his best talent directly to Iowa City...

Good Job Jamie, solid hire!!! Yes Paul does not have head coaching experience blah blah, but does have success and other big schools wanting him. National recruiter which is what I was really really looking for, being from Iowa and WANTING to be here is huge. I am behind Jamie and Paul 100%. Say what you want negative nancy's, but this is the best fit and most realistic hire. I prefer Paul over most mentioned on here. Plus he is young!! Now lets go get some good coordinators!!!
