MLB: Bob Brenly leaving Cubs

I read somewhere that Rick Sutcliffe could be a possibility and I think he'd do a nice job. Grace would too but his drunk driving issue pending makes it a skeptical hire. Would love to see Kerry Wood in the booth either TV or Radio some day but I am guessing he takes a few years off to spend with the family before considering it. Doug Glanville and Eric Karros would not be bad either. Whoever it is has to have good personality and have some name recognition I think, there are enough guys with former Cubs ties in the business I'm sure they will be able to land a worthy replacement.

Sutcliffe could be very good. I would love that hire! He's good on ESPN, and has very significant ties to Cubs history.

I "HATE 2-see Bob Brenly leaving the Cubs broadcast team because imho Bob was a Class Act all the way and I loved his Pull NO Punches style.

Good Luck Bob Brenly wherever you end up....

Bob Brenly is going to the Arizona booth with Steve Berthuiame (sp?) from ESPN doing the play-by-play. The official announcement is going to come some time in early November since Steve is currently hosting Baseball Tonight through the World Series.

I'll miss Bob. He was a fan of the team, but told it like it was. One of the biggest things, I think, is that Len and Bob had great chemistry together as a broadcast team. You could put the best play-by-play guy and the best color analyst together, but if they don't have a rapport, it won't work.

I REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY don't want Steve Stone back. Something I read said that Stone doesn't really get along with Harrelson over at the White Sox, but he still has something like one or two years left on his contract. Sutcliffe, Hollandsworth, Wood, Glanville....I'd be okay with any one of those four.

And I'll end with Bob's favorite six words....

"Yes dear, you're right, I'm sorry..."

He'd be great. I don't know if he'd give up doing Sunday night baseball but he'd be my #1 choice.

I find it amusing that people don't think Mark Grace should be considered because he had a DUI. Lord Harry Carry was sloshed half the time he did a broadcast.

Now if Gracy said some dumb things about the Cubs after he left, that's a different story. That's too bad. He was really loved a lot when he was in town.

The first thing he said in front of a mic/camera after his D-Back team won the Series in 2001....the FIRST THING HE SAID....was a disparaging remark about the Cubs and their management not thinking he was good enough to be part of the team. Grace will not be on the Cubs' broadcasting team.

Yup. People don't really forget. Organizations really don't forget.

That was mainly MacPhail, who is long gone from the organization. Grace has been back for the 7th inning stretch and Cubs conventions since then. That hatchet has been buried.

Grace has two DUIs and could face jail time. Not happening. Wood has said he's not interested. I'm hoping for Eric Karros.
