MLB: Bob Brenly leaving Cubs

I miss him already.

So, where will he manage?

Lateral move to Arizona. I'm really surprised knowing that his son is in the Cubs organization I figured he would stay. Wonder if they can get Stoney to come back; the only reason I didn't like Brenly at first was because I liked Steve Stone so much. If not I go with Hollandsworth or Kerry Wood. Not sure what Wood brings in as far as talent, but if he is good, you almost have to put him in there.

I wonder how many times he was asked over the years to come down from the booth and manage the CUBS...LOL

They could of done a lot worse---and they have

Ugh, I hate this. Hopefully they replace him with someone like Doug Glanville and not Hollandsworth or Steve Stone.

I never liked Brenly much. Thought he was kind of boring.

Bummer! If Wood is good (see what I did there) and he wants to do it, it would make perfect sense. Gonna miss Brenly

I liked Bob, but am sure they'll get a solid replacement. He was really good most of the time, but sometimes it seemed like he was in the cone of silence. Was really interesting to hear his perspective as a former Major League manager. The time for change sentiment is mutual for me.

Really like Len Kasper

He's no McCarver. Just tonight, he speculated that Matt Cain may have mistook a bunt sign for a bunt sign. Brenly just doesn't have that type of insight. Plus, he hates bunts.

I grew up listening to Steve Stone, would love to have him come back but I doubt that would happen.

I'm betting it will be one of these three people, in order:

1. Todd Hollandsworth (IMO, he does great pre and post-game work on CSN and he is honest)

2. Kerry Wood. 2 years ago when he came back for cheap, he said that he worked out a deal with Hendry that he would get a job with the Cubs organization when he retired. Sure, Hendry isn't back, but you know he will work for the Cubs in some way next year.

3. Keith Moreland. Not a big name for those who don't pay attention. A few years ago, he would replace Bob Brenly during his vacation days. Now, he has replaced Ron Santo as the color analyst in the radio booth. He is great for the radio, so I'm not sure if they will take him out.

I read somewhere that Rick Sutcliffe could be a possibility and I think he'd do a nice job. Grace would too but his drunk driving issue pending makes it a skeptical hire. Would love to see Kerry Wood in the booth either TV or Radio some day but I am guessing he takes a few years off to spend with the family before considering it. Doug Glanville and Eric Karros would not be bad either. Whoever it is has to have good personality and have some name recognition I think, there are enough guys with former Cubs ties in the business I'm sure they will be able to land a worthy replacement.

Miller and Brinson talked with David Kaplan(sp) (from Comcast chicago or whatever he is) yesterday on their show and said no way in hell Grace gets anywhere near this organization again. Apparently some of his comments after winning the World Series with Arizona struck a nerve.

Kaplan also said that the STL Cardinals are a top 5 pro team organization across all pro sports teams and that, being a cubs fan, it pained him to say so.
