BLOG: These stats might shock you

Looks like we have basically the same stats as last year, but this year with a 30 second shot clock. That isn't necessarily a bad thing. It's like we are all just waiting for the NCAA draw and to see how it ends up. The regular season is just about seeding anymore.

Interesting stats. While I believe the team had very high expectations from the average ISU fan, I also think they probably underestimated how difficult the league would be. I know I did.

Like LindenCy said, I think the 30 second clock has a lot to do with that, (patiently waits for Haaland to back that up) but interesting nonetheless.

I sure hope we're not on target for a repeat of last year. I'd like something....anything....different than the way that ended.

But I want to panic NOW!

This time last we had some of the tough games out of the way that we still need to play, so comparing wins and losses isn't the entire picture.

Why are you shocked? The increases are due to the new 30 second shot clock. There are a number of issue with this team. Some of those issues are not fixable (quality depth) and the issues that are fixable haven't been fixed yet and never will be (free throws and execution).

This team won't be in the top 25 come the end of the season.

Good comparison. The "we were so much better last year" mantra around here gets a little old. The expectation for this year was just so much higher.

I don't want to say I necessarily feel better about this year's team, but I do feel like our defense is a little better, which should help us come tourney time. Outside of the Iowa game, it doesn't feel like this year's team has quite the same ability to storm back from huge deficits like last year's team. However, our defensive improvements leads me to believe that we won't be seeing those kind of deficits either.

This next game against Texas will be a big one going into the remainder of the season. We really need McKay to buy in and play like he's capable.

I actually am not that suprised... the main difference is ISU was winning the last second games last year. Not to mention we've lost the same games up to this point. (Baylor home, TT on the road, Okie on the road ect.) The only differenct loss was WV at home and most concerning in my mind. This is the same team as last year, which shouldn't be suprising since the key members are the same Niang, Morris, Nader, Mckay. That team won the big 12 touney (in stressful fashion) and was a 3 seed. I'd add Thomas and Burton are actually upgrades over BDJ and Hogue. I think Cooke is gaining confidence and if he could get a Naz-ish shooter for the streach run ISU can still make noise in the Tourney both Big 12 and NCAA.

Would you like a wager on this?

I don't care about winning the conference. All I care about is wins in March. I would much rather have the team work the struggles and pains and drama now. Let it all out and find a way to get right as a TEAM while there is still more season. Everything...EVERYTHING, is focused toward wins in the NCAA Tournament.

Other side of the argument if you want to be negative (I'm not).......

Our guys are juniors/seniors now and have tons of experience. The fact that the stats are similar isn't a good thing.

In the end, I think we can all agree that Naz not playing really hurts this team.

RE the luck factor. While I know we get the occasional bounce our way, I can't remember the last time we had less than 4 seconds on a shot clock and made a basket, which seems to happen to our opponent with regularity this season. And Wednesday's 30 foot bank shot put an exclamation point on that.

I do believe this team is talented and can do some special things come March. However I'm much more realistic today that it probably won't happen. Won't stop me from watching every game and rooting them on, though.
