Blog on ISU fandom

Your wife is a pretty good writer.

This is exactly why I can't understand, even in a fit of anger, any Cyclone ever saying if such and such happens I will no longer support ISU's whatever program. If you are a Cyclone, it is part of you. I could probably do without my spleen more easily.

Very well written. It's an interesting thought. I do kind of feel that way too. It's kind of splitting hairs though, because I am sure a lot of us know die-hard cyclone "fans" who care just as much. They may not have experienced the same educational and day to day experiences, but they love the cyclones as much as anybody. This of course doesn't apply to you average tavern hawk fan. :)

Purple hawks are the worst people in the world and should be burned at the stake.

I attended ISU for a semester does that count?

That being said, if ISU doesn't win a national title this year I will cry until next year.

Good read.

I remember during the height of the conference realignment armageddon there was a poll on CF asking if ISU were not in a BCS conference would you still be a fan? Probably my least favorite thread ever.

You are an alumnus of an institution if you've studied there, fyi. Also, thanks for being an ISU fan. We need every non-grad we can get.

I love it! All in -- didn't need to buy it cause I was already there. Great read. For those of us that are a little older -- just sub in Cave In, Thumbs Up, The Dallas Club. ISU is part of our DNA - it's how we are wired. The highs are that much higher because of the lows. God help the world if we make it to the top of the mountain...

My dad graduated from there so I was born a good guy. I just didn't like spending as much time going to and from class as I spent in class so I went online. Online school was awesome.

"We could have a long discussion of what bar replaced The Dean's List, or The Library, or Sips. While we're at it, lets raise your mug filled with an FAC special and say a little prayer in memory of People's and Lumpy's.

YES! RIP People's and Lumpy's...

Did she intentionally not refer to the band as the Iowa State University Cyclone Football "Varsity" Marching Band?

My wife would disagree somewhat on whether she is a fan or is All In. She would be a purple cyclone but I can attest that she is completely All In. If fact, I would say she is more All In than the 80's-90's generations of lost alums. I think any passionate ISU fan who has to deal with Tavern Hawks quickly becomes All In.

Great read. I have been talking about the same "points" since I graduated from the great Iowa State University.

I am a Cyclone.

It's a silly notion to think you are just a "fan" if you didn't go to Iowa State. Or that being an alum automatically makes people have a deeper connection to the athletics program. There are going to be great fans that never stepped foot in an ISU classroom same as there are going to be people who went here for 4+ years of school and still root for their hometown team, or jump on the bandwagon of whatever is hot at the moment.

Being an alumni is certainly one way that people come to be true supporters of Iowa State, or any school for that matter, but it's hardly the only way.
