Blaire Thomas verbals ISU WBB

Not at all. Just a general feeling I have from a handful of interactions. I shouldn't have said anything. I'm sorry.

Not sure about your interactions with her, but, my daughter goes to school with her and said she's one of the nicest and well liked kids in school....

And FWIW, she said the day after the news broke, she was supporting an ISU sweatshirt at school....

But, these are young kids and anything is possible!

Good luck Blaire....

Blaire is 5th in 5A scoring in Iowa with 16.3. Iowa recruit Ally Disterhoft (IC West) leads 5A with 24.8. New Florida recruit Haley Lorenzen (IC High) is 3rd with 17.6.

Blaire is also currently 5th in 5A in rebounding with 9. Haley Lorenzen is 3rd with 10.1. Iowa's Disterhoft is tied for 8th with 8.7.
Jadda Buckley is 3rd in 5A in assists with 5.4 & tied for 2nd in steals with 41.

Haley Lorenzen & Ally Disterhoft are tied for 7th with 22 blocked shots.

Saw her play vs DM East last night. Scored 8, and snagged quite a few rebounds in the loss at Saydel. DM East is pretty impressive when hitting their shots (then again, most teams are). Blaire had times where she really went after the ball on rebounds, and I was honestly surprised on some of the rebounds she came up with. It'll be interesting to follow her this next year.

Thomas sounds like she has the physical tools and drive to be good. Does anyone know if she plays with an AAU team or hits basketball camps at Iowa State or elsewhere. If she can rebound and defend that is a big deal and working on ball handling and shooting inside and out would round out her talents.

I saw that a junior guard from East was named 1st team CIML, is she a potential prospect? Or does someone else already have her? How long has it been since a DSM player came to ISU?

That is Roy Marble's (of Iowa fame) daughter. She will get a lot of attention after they watch her play at the State tournament.

If you had ever seen Blaire played then you would know that she has a very big upside. She is a very strong and agile player with the potential of being a defensive stopper. Her inside game is the strongest now but she is only a junior and I would assume that during summer ball she will develop a good 3 point shot. Thomas is a good athlete with a great work ethic and a Pop like attitude on the court. For the first verbal for the 2014 Cyclone class, I like this one.

She is getting great coaching on her High School team as well. Tony Pappas is one of the best, he's had tons of DI kids...

She's a great get!

Hopefully Iowa losing its way this season will nudge a few in-state prospects our way. Is it absolutely impossible we will play Iowa at Iowa City in the NCAA? Or just highly unlikely? Iowa's record against ranked teams means they are a lock at this point? After this season, I hope we will always have 3 serviceable PGs on the roster every year. Is this East player more of a 2 than a 1?

I liked this girl's attitude from the first. We may be a bit smaller in the next several years, but also more athletic and quicker.

I don't know her personally, but it looks like unless she doesn't want to play for Bludder, she probably is a legacy at Iowa. If she doesn't go to Iowa I would find it highly improbable that she would go to ISU. I don't think there is a lot of love for ISU in Roy Marble's family.

too true. Either go the way of Iowa, or as Lorenzen did and avoid the situation. Heard Disteroff really liked ISU, but in the end couldn't do that to the family.

I'm not sure that is the case. Not sure of the name, but I believe it was Marble who directed a men's player to ISU once he knew it wasn't going to happen at Iowa. He stated he knew he would be a great fit here and would be taken care of.

I think that would be Monte Morris who recently signed to play for the men's team.

For those from Waterloo in the 80s, Blaire Thomas' cousins (probably 2nd cousins) were both stars at West, playing D1 for San Diego State (Anthony) and Washington State (Juan). They could jump out of the gym. Very athletic. I've heard she can do the same. Good bloodlines and good family. I like that ISU continues to go with more athleticm than what weve had historically. You could see it paying off in the Oklahoma game. Welcome Blaire! Can't wait to watch you play!

I recollect this, also, so wouldn't concede her.

There was another Junior on her team that led them in scoring this year, Haley Puk, looks to be a little taller and a 3 point threat, anyone know if we are going after her as well?

I think she is on our recruiting list too. Haley would add speed and agility to our team with a great three point shot. It seems that BF is looking at recruits that are faster and stronger then in the past. Maybe instead of pounding it inside in the Big 12, we can run them off the court.

Good question. I really don't know. When I said "a bit smaller," I did not mean it would be a good idea if all of our starters were under six feet, which I believe is the case with K-State. It is likely that we will go to the juco ranks for a post player for next year; further out, after Hallie graduates, who knows?
