Biggest Non-QB Draft Busts

How about Hershel Walker? I know he had a couple years with the Vikes, but not sure he did much elsewhere.

More tricky to assess Walker in a draft-bust discussion, since he went to USFL for two seasons, then was drafted 5th.

He had 1,500 yards w/ Dallas in 1988.

Could qualify, though, considering college potential — two seasons above 1,000 yards.

He wasn't a great LT in the NFL like he was hyped to be. He doesn't even play LT anymore, he is a guard. I wouldnt say he is a bust though.

This. He's what I consider a "sort-of" bust. He obviously didn't pan out the way everyone though he would, but he's turned into a pretty damn good guard. But you don't draft even elite guards at the #2 spot, and Gallery isn't elite at his position, just very good. Probably an early second rounder if we did things over again, knowing what we know now.

That's not a bust.

Yeah, I went back and looked at his stats. Better than I thought, so I deleted my post. Looks like he was a pretty decent receiver, too.

Wondering about some of the other positions where there were can't miss prospects that became draft busts. Some of the ones I can remember.

O-Line: Tony Mandarich, Robert Gallery
WR-Charles Rodgers, Peter Warrick
RB-Ki-Jana Carter, Curtis Ennis
DE-Andre Wadsworth

The Bears have been victims of some of the biggest head-cases in the last 20 years. Curtis Ennis, Alonzo Spellman, etc

Using your definition, and sticking just to the Packers, wouldn't Jamal Reynolds be a bigger bust? He was drafted 10th instead of 2nd but he only played in 18 games his entire career while Mandarich played in 86. Brent Fullwood was drafted 4th and only played in 46. The thing that sets Mandarich apart is that he had QB level hype coming into the NFL so everybody knows who he was. It is also made worse because the next 3 guys off the board were Barry Sanders, Derrick Thomas, and Deion Sanders. Not to mention Aikman was picked first. Four hall of famers and one not so much.

There is no way i would call bob gallery a bust. he has been a STARTER in the NFL for 8 seasons with 103 starts under his belt. did he live up to expectations? no, but he is hardly a complete bust. if that were the case, he wouldn't be in the league anymore. as mentioned above, there way worse OL draft choices than gallery.

I have a hard time calling Reggie Bush a bust. He's pretty much exactly the player people thought he would be in the NFL: not durable enough for an every down RB, but extremely elusive/productive in space as part of the passing and return game.

He's nowhere close to being the dominant force he was in college, but he's way too productive for "bust" in my mind. Same goes for Gallery.

Calling Ricky Williams a bust is insane.

Definitely seems like it would be a toss up between him and Leaf for the most notorious bust of all time.

Although I think Mandarich ended up being decent late in his career. Could be wrong about that though.

Compared to the hype surrounding him as a rookie, Reggie Bush most definitely has been a bust. He was compared to Barry Sanders coming out of college. A sure thing. Yes, there were some who questioned his ability to be an every down back, but there were just as many calling him the next star running back.

And now, here we are, six years into his career, and he's never accumulated double digit touchdowns in a season, hit 1000 rushing yards in a season once, and only eclipsed 1000 yards from scrimmage twice.

Stack his numbers against the guys he was compared to as a rookie, or any of the top running backs in the league since he came in, for that matter, and he's most definitely not lived up to his draft spot.

He is a bust. Maybe less of a bust than some other people, but a bust nonetheless. He was supposed to be a "can't miss" Tackle. He sucked at tackle, and is only serviceable as a guard. You don't draft a lineman at #2 that can't play his position and is only serviceable in the league.

Ricky Williams?
Herschel Walker?
Reggie Bush?

If you want to say "disappointing" or some such, I can go along but the bust word definitely qualifies this as a tough crowd.
