Big10 rumors today

Sorry but with a 16 team league its the only way to insure that each side plays one another. Go to 2 8 teams divisions, and you are only playing a team in the other division once every 4 to 5 years.

Not really. Can have a single conference or 2 divisions and set up "virtual" pods or protected opponents- whatever you want to call it. Just play the same 3 protected schools each year and then rotate between the other 12 schools based number of conference games each season.

7 division and 2 different cross over every year. It's not rocket science.
Which leads to one team playing the better teams in the other division twice a decade. Its been stated repeatedly in the Athletic that the SEC is going to 4 team pods. OU and UT complaint was not playing bigger games, you think they are going to fine with not playing Alabama, Georgia and others once every 4 to 5 years.

Perhaps avoiding more realignment threads on CF should have been CMC's motivation for the team to have its **** together for the first month.

So you're plagiarizing the Atlantic?

No matter how you slice it if you don't play everyone you're going to have unbalanced schedules.

Or maybe - and hear me out - don’t have a league with 16 teams. Just a thought.

I see you guys are *still* on my lawn. Whippersnappers.

That can't be an exact quote. Lincoln died way before Al Gore was born.

You don't even need 2 divisions, you only need 1. The pods only need to be the scheduling component of who you play each year, then you can take the 4 teams with the best record.

This virtual pod thing is idiotic. They will absolutely do 4-4 team divisions. You can market a division championship. You don't market "I was the best team amongst my protected rivals". The is going to emulate the NFL not the B1G.

There is no bragging rights for protected rivals, because it is irrelevant from a W/L standpoint and determining CCG teams.

It would just mean a school like Iowa would play the 3 protected rivals every year (aka Huskers, Gophers and Illini). They would then play the other Big10 teams on a rotating basis. This would allow Big10 to dump divisions and have 2 best teams play for CCG.

Best of both worlds- teams continue to play their biggest rival each year AND Big10 CCG matches 2 best teams.

IMO CCG are a waste if playoff expands to 12 teams.

You don't have to explain to me how you think your vision would work. I know. This is a money making scheme, and always has been for the last 20 years. Divisions with "Division Champs" is far more marketable than your version which produces a single champion for the conference at the end of the day. Division champ looks better than 4th place. This will absolutely emulate the NFL, the most profitable version of american football. There is no reason to do what you propose.

And the NCAA can't emulate the NFL.

The money for conferences and teams will be getting a spot in the 8 or 12 team playoff. The $2B from the playoff is more valuable than splitting $50-75M sixteen ways within a conference by playing a CCG series.

In a pod CCG structure, 3 of 4 teams in the conference will have lost their last game before a selection committee or computer determines the playoff teams.

Same goes for the really elite teams like Bama, Clemson and Ohio State over the last 5 years. In an 8 or 12 team playoff, it seems like they have more at risk by playing in a CCG series. Losing one of the top 4 seeds and a bye. Player injuries.

Plus I don't think University Presidents will be too keen in potential for college football teams playing 16 or 17 games (12 regular season, 2 CCG series, 2 or 3 Playoff).
