Big Ten Hate

Michigan didn't deserve a BCS bid, and in all reality, it probably would have helped their conference bowl record had they not gotten one.

Kstate would have brought a lot of people to New Orleans, no question. They travelled well for other bowls of BS era...So the fan $$$ would have been there.

What wasn't going to be there was the TV ratings. Casual fans don't watch Kansas State. It is the same principle as ratings for us, and (gasp) iowa. You really have to have a connection to the school, or state, to tune in for those games.

Look at the orange bowl a couple years ago, TERRIBLE ratings. Ga Tech is no household name, but the mighty hawks, repping the awsome big 10, drew NOBODY outside of the state, and pockets of iowans living around the country.

An average person in Tampa isn't going to watch an Iowa State, or an iowa, or a Kansas State game, unless they have some connection to those schools. They would, however, watch UT or OU, or Mich or O$U or child rape u play or Alabama or LSU, because they have been on TV forever and people are used to them...

Advertising dollars are a big deal, and you have to have ratings to get the $$$

I realize why it happened but I don't like that it happened. Depressing thought that ISU could be 10-2, top 8 in the country, and second best in the best conference and not get a BCS bid over the likes of second bids from the ACC and Big 10. Also depressing would be winning the best conference and not getting a national title shot to a team that was second best in their conference.

Wisconsin just gave Oregon everything they could handle. Ohio State is routinely competitive in BCS games (even most of their losses have been close, save for the Florida bloodbath).

Saying the Big Ten's best is better than it's made out to be (especially around here) doesn't really say all that much. I do think the top of the conference isn't that bad. But it's a top-heavy conference, and in straight matchups (#1 vs. #1, #2 vs. #2, etc.) doesn't stack up with the SEC (and in most years, the Big 12).

From what I heard on the radio this morning: OSU is 0-10 (maybe it was 0-11) against the SEC in bowl games. Last year's "win" was vacated.

You do realize the Georgia Tech-Iowa match-up in the Orange Bowl still got better ratings than last years Fiesta Bowl(which featured Oklahoma), right?

The Big 10 gets their bowl tie-in because of the numbers of fans that travel. That comes from the general demographics of each school. The media hypes them during the year because the amount of fans they have demand that. Has nothing to do with the quality of football they play. THe Big 10 could do their bowl record a favor by not having such good tie-ins, but they have about 47 million reasons not to. They'll take the embarassment and spend the money.

Look, I get it. Iowa is in the Big Ten, and ISU fans hate Iowa. No brainer.

What I don't get is the over-obsession by quite a few people on here with the BIG. I guess I just don't get the mindset of treating an entire conference as an opposing (or favorite) team.

Personally, I was happy with UW's loss (especially the way it happened), because Iowa and UW are rivals. I don't want them to win a Rose Bowl. Ever. I was hoping Sparty would lose, because, well, I hate Dantonio. A lot.

Especially if my favorite team doesn't contribute to the strength of the conference.

Just my opinion.

big baby.....just don't troll here anymore

My opinion is that as an ISU grad, the Cyclones will always be my favorite team.

As an ISU grad who grew up in Eastern Iowa, I have a dark disdain for that Eastern Iowa college.

As I have written here before, my favorite team is always the Big 10 team opponent of the day.

Well into page 13 and all that's been settled is that there is nobody anywhere that thinks the Big Ten is any good at all.

Hey guys, thanks for the laughs. Forwarded this thread to a bunch of people. None of which thought you guys were, in any way, jealous of Iowa.

By the way, when is ANYONE going to answer the question that was asked 800 times by Iowa fans in this thread about who the heck was claiming the Big-10 would be any good this year?

I've seen like 85 million posts on this site about the Big-10 being overhyped, yet I never hear ANYONE say the Big-10 is any good. Pretty much everyone in the media has acknowledged the conference being down lately. I don't ever speak to fans of any Big-10 team (Iowa included, except maybe a few delusional morons) that thinks the conference is very strong right now.

Where do you guys get your stuff from? Seriously, who's feeding you guys this BS? Or are you just making stuff up like you normally do?

The Big-10 is mediocre right now. We all know this. Why the need for 20 threads a day on it (and, yes, I know THIS thread was started by an Iowa fan)? I send the CycloneFanatic link to friends of random teams just so they can get a kick out of your jealousy of Iowa. I don't think I've found one person that didn't come to the conclusion you guys have serious envy problems.

Give it up already. The Big-10 sucks. Yeah, we know. Unfortunately, that has NOTHING to do with Iowa have a superior program to ISU. NOTHING. Talent, tradition, money, and larger fan base are the reasons. Deal with it.

Oh, and if your response is "we're not jealous of Iowa", just shut it. No one believes that. Not even you. The reason for all of these anti- Big-10 threads is because you want to justify why Iowa continually outperforms your mediocre program.

Sorry, the truth hurts sometimes. But that doesn't mean you have to make stuff up to argue. Come up with something better next time.

Ah, said so eloquently by the Hawk Fan trolling our boards. Maybe I am jealous of Iowa, but at least I don't go to any Hawkeye forums and act like I don't care. Answer this question. Who has the complex, the guy who talks with like minded fans or the guy who goes to the rivals board to prove his fandom?

I thought the Big 10 was much better in bowl games this year, with some decent showings, though they lost. What makes Big 12 fans mad is the fact that KSU and Baylor got sent to lower teir bowls while MI got in the BCS.

It's easy, Big 10 hate comes because there are more Big 10 fans in this area than from other conferences. Thats all, and the Big 10 gets = or more press than the Big 12 even though they are far worse in talent.
Oh, and they have Iowa and Nebraska.

This is really what started it for me. In 2007, when the Rose Bowl chose a 9-3 Illinois team, I pretty much lost it. Much like notre Dame, they get picked for big bowl games lately because of everything other than the quality of the team.

Jon Miller, is that you?:biglaugh::biglaugh::biglaugh:

Well that solves it then.. we are ALL jealous of Iowa.
Suppose we should all get counseling or something? Maybe we should all get medication or surgery-now he's got me really worried. Is it contagious? Could a hok fan get it from a Cyclone fan just by coming on our forum? Yikes, this has major complications!

I could make a pretty good case that ISU's program is in a better place right now than Iowa's. How does being stagnant with really no reason to be optimistic feel?

Not Iowa directly, but I will admit, I am really jealous of the B1G's bowl affiliations. how nice would it be to have 5 Big XII games on Jan 2. 2 6-6 teams playing in the Gatory Bowl? It proves January Bowls don't mean **** anymore, but none the less, it would still be nice to be in them.

Newsflash: Iowa =\= Big 10. You are only one small (very small part) of that conference. Oh, and by the way, the Big Ten getting an extra BCS berth is what suggests that someone is saying the Big Ten is deserving.

Go away, it isn't just about you, DB.

So I might be the only one on here, but I'm pretty neutral on Iowa. After we're done playing them I don't really pay any attention to what they do the rest of the year, I just want them to be a win on our schedule. Well, unless they have tOSU on their schedule (I'm a tOSU fan) in which case I'll watch that game. So I expect at least one win a year from my two teams (tOSU about 90% confident; ISU 40% confident)

The Big 10 is the Notre Dame of conferences. They are terrible but still get a bunch of media love.

Also, the Hawks and Huskers are members. If those teams to badly, it's good for ISU.

The only reason I dislike the Big Ten is that living in Big Ten Country the Big 12 is completely ignored. Last night on Chicago Tribune Live they were talking about how the Big Ten is an Elite Conference. Compared to the MAC yes, but to the other major conferences I think it is hard to argue the Big Ten stacks up in Football. It's a great conference for other sports, and the schools are all very good, but they get a flyer on competitiveness in College Football. They were even talking about how Urban Meyer is going to lift the Conference up and make it better. How does one Coach make an elite conference better? Isn't that admitting that it is not and in need of help?

I cheer for Minnesota too, but if you are being honest I think you have to admit that The Big Ten has great history and tradition in Football, but is top to bottom the third or fourth best in Football. That could change, but for right now it is true.
