BIG Media Rights Negotiation Update

If there are no scholarship and coach limits, how on earth will there be anything remotely resembling competitive balance? Texas, Bama, etc will have the equivalent of 3 teams worth of players stockpiled. Like old Nebraska, but with players getting paid on top of it.

Is the NCAA is offering that to the big schools in a desperate effort to remain part of the business?
"Go ahead and **** anyone you want, honey, just please don't leave me!"

Either that or they are just flat out trying to break the system with this and NIL - manufacturing a crisis so they can blow up the whole thing to a NFL-lite model.
Seems like it could be about partial scholarships.

Partial scholarships would be brilliant for the "haves". The last thing standing in the way of a scholarship level player not being on scholarship but instead being a "walkon" but everything paid for under NIL would be gone. They could have 10 players on a 10% scholarship so they get all the scholarship perks and then NIL foots the bill for the rest. Couple that with unlimited scholarships and they can stockpile to their hearts content.

There would be a lot players finding out the money is nice but not getting to ever actually play sucks.

I think this board dramatically overstates how much NIL money is really floating around. Also many top players don’t want to leave the place where they have had success because a new environment poses new challenges. Sure you will get the insane NIL deal now and again but that isn’t the norm. That being said the portal has been a god send for our FB program and I know it is a high priority moving forwards.
The NIL money floating around now is inconsequential...what's important are the structures being formed right now that will create NIL funds which will amplify the existing disparity between blue bloods and the rest of us. Especially the rest of us who aren't going to be the beneficiaries of the new SEC and B1G media rights deals. UT has already created a fund for OLs...and God knows what else. Sure, NIL+Portal deals are new and a bit scandalous now but we're on year one of this. More money, as with everything else, will beget more money. We're headed for a split in the P5. MSU & UI will be winners. ISU won't.

And f@ck Wendy Wintersteen for losing our AAU status when we needed it the most.

B1G schools ain't going to make $100 mill a year from this.
$100 million number has been thrown around a lot over this past year, like it was a given, that the BIG would be there or higher, now when the deal is shown the light of day, it's down to $71 million, still a lot of cash, but short of the $100 to 110 that many thought would be there for the taking. Factor in payout from bowl games and the rest and it still comes up to less than $80 million closer to $75 million, with Rutgers and Maryland is not getting full shares. So, any increase in payouts down the road will be eaten up by the amount those two schools receive.

The SEC will be closer to $100 when they redo their TV contract after adding OU and UT, none of it helps ISU and the Big 12/14, but hopefully we will be fine.

As someone else pointed out if it ends up at $1.1 bill an even split is closer to $78 mill per year per school. With bowls and lower tier payouts probably approaching $85 mill.

I don’t know of any rational person that said 100mil but I’m sure you heard it from plenty or random people. Number is going to be around 85mil plus the extra stuff. Rutgers and Maryland will be getting full shares with that amount. I’m interested to see what the SEC gets becuase it’s essentially espn bidding against themselves.

I saw that $100 million number being knocked around by both the talking heads, and many of the fan of the Big 10. So, if they are not rational people, that is on them, but that was the number that many were throwing around.

Totally fair. If you include playoffs, bowl games, and NCAA tourny money maybe that number is closer but for just pure media dollars it should be around 85

IF this turns out to be the case where they get 3 national tv timeslots I can only imagine what the B1G tv payout is going to be. It will be LARGE:
