Hey everyone!

Can anyone help me remember the Big 4 Classic from last year? Was the ISU/UNI game the early game last year? Did they really have the Iowa/Drake game the second game last year?

If so, I was wondering if anyone knew why Iowa State got the early game again this year? It is no big deal, and of the 2 games, the Drake/ISU game should be most lopsided and I can understand that the Iowa/UNI game could be a best game of the 2 in terms of competitiveness.

Thanks in advance.

We were the first game last year just watched the replay on cyclones.tv last night and they kept mentioning how the IOWA/DRAKE game is coming up.

Correct. We were the early game. I left during the second TV timeout of the Hawk game and traffic was a breeze. It was awesome.

ISU v UNI was the early game last year.

Oh shite, I just realized I missed this game last season and I have cytv now so I'm going to watch this tonight. Ya! It's like missing a season finale of game of thrones, forgetting that you forgot about it, then watching the night before the next season starts.

No, we played the second game last year. I think it rotates each year.

Wait a sec ... are we talking about the 2013 Big Four Classic? I was there and we were definitely the early game. Tuttle's miraculous three to force overtime, Melvin draining 3's in OT - all of that was in the early game.

A quick Google search:
"Matchups and tipoff times for the 2013 Hy-Vee Big Four Classic have been determined, as the state of Iowa's four NCAA Division I men's basketball teams prepare to take center stage at Wells Fargo Arena on Dec. 7. Northern Iowa and Iowa State will open the doubleheader event with a 5 p.m. tipoff, followed by Drake and Iowa renewing their series at 7:30 p.m."

So we were the early game.

I'm not surprised that we play first all of the time. Gets the more desirable patronage in to the bars and restaurants faster.

IIRC, it was set up for UNI to play the first game for the first two years, and Drake play in the first game the last two years. So ISU should have the late game next year against UNI.

I think it must have something to do with who is the visiting team and home team....I just saw it as Iowa was getting the prime time spot for 2 years in a row, even though ISU was bringing the nationally ranked team. Although, needing OT last year, UNI nearly beat us.

I hope UNI can give Iowa a run for its money.

Not everyone can rotate every year. One team will repeat in the early slot, one team will repeat in the late slot, and the other two teams will rotate. Just so long as the following two years they rotate the repeat early and repeat late slotted teams and continue to have the other two rotate it will work out.

A bigger issue is why not sell separate tickets?

We actually play Drake again next year now that the Big 4 Classic has been extended. Don't ask me why, I have no idea.

EDIT: I'm an idiot. Nevermind.
